Women’s Rowing Competes Against Top Competition at the Doc Hosea Invitational

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- The Temple women's rowing team raced against top competition at the Doc Hosea Invitational on the Cooper River Sunday. The team competed against 18 schools in morning heats before the event finals were canceled due to inclement weather conditions.

"Despite the weather challenges that caused cancellation of the afternoon finals we still had a great season opener", said head coach Rebecca Grzybowski. "Race day energy was in full effect, and it was exciting to get a first full 2k race for the entire team. I'm very proud of the collective effort."

"Heading into this weekend we set some very internal performance markers and the team really committed to executing on those goals", said Grzybowski. "The resulting performance was encouraging. We are all feeling inspired and excited to stack up another week of hard work and improvement."

Race Results

>The Varsity 8 boat kicked off the racing day and brought the energy. The Owls placed third in their heat with a time of 6:44.61.

>The 2 Varsity 8 put up an impressive time at today's invitational. The Owls placed second in their heat behind Penn with a time of 6:51.95 while besting Drexel, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Columbia. The Owls were also 14 seconds ahead of American Athletic Conference rival Tulsa, which competed in a different heat.

>The Varsity 4 placed 4th in their heat with a time of 8:01.95.

>The Owls 2 Varsity 4 finished with a time of 8:54.23.

>The 3 Varsity 8 boat rounded out the race day and put up a time of 8:22.85.

>The Owls return to the water to host the 39th Annual Murphy Cup on Saturday, April 2 on the Schuylkill River.
