No. 9 Fencing Wins 26th Straight NIWFA Title, Earns Five Weapon Titles

MADISON, N.J. - The No. 9 Temple fencing team opened postseason play in an impressive fashion, winning its 26th straight NIWFA Title. The Owls also swept the team weapon titles and won two of the three individual weapon titles.
Meet Highlights
> The Owls won the Olympians Trophy to take the team title and beat out 12 teams for the championship, with No. 15 Johns Hopkins taking second and No. 15 NYU taking third.
> The team swept the weapons awards for the second year in a row. This is the third year in a row that Temple has won the epee and foil titles.
> Freshman Anna Novoseltseva earned the individual foil title and Emma Pincus took home the individual sabre title.Â
> In team play, Sara Proctor (epee) and Constança Dimas (foil) went an undefeated 12-0, while saberist Diana Tiburcio went 11-1. Gretl Merges (foil), Alexandra Weinberg (sabre), and Arwen Gormley (sabre) earned a 6-0 mark, and Ashley Cherry (epee) posted a 4-0 record.
> In individual play, Dimas earned a fifth-place finish, Tiburcio finished in sixth place, and Merges finished in eighth place to round out the top-8 finishers.
> Head coach Dr. Nikki Franke was also recognized with the Founder's Award.
