Women’s Tennis Set to Face South Florida in First Round of American Athletic Conference Tournament

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis (11-5) nabbed the eighth seed in the American Athletic Conference standings as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. With this, the Cherry and White are set to face ninth seeded, South Florida (5-15) in the first round of the AAC Tournament. The match is set for Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 1 p.m. ET at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

- Temple enters the match with an 11-5 record, most recently dropping to No. 48 Tulsa, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
- Prior to Tulsa, the Owls were on a five-match win streak, which included two 7-0 sweeps and a perfect 9-0 home performance.
- Freshman Veronika Kulhava and senior Yining Tian have proven their dominance in singles play this year, both earning 12 singles dual wins to serve as the team leaders. Kulhava is 12-3, which includes performances throughout the first four positions while Tian is 12-4, playing primarily in the No. 4 spot, but also picking up wins in the No. 3 and No. 5 positions.
- The sophomore duo of Sena Takebe and Evie Wei remain as the team leaders in doubles play, accruing a 10-3 dual record which includes an 8-2 mark from the No. 2 spot and a 2-1 mark from the No. 1 spot.
- South Florida enters the tournament ranked ninth in the American Athletic Conference standings after posting a 5-15 regular season record.
- Of the Bulls 15 losses, eight of them have been against highly competitive opponents including, No. 20 Florida, No. 68 South Alabama, No. 50 VCU, No. 37 Tulsa, No. 55 Rice, No. 42 FIU, No. 68 Florida Atlantic and No. 18 Central Florida.
- Sierra Berry leads the team in singles play, posting a 9-9 mark in dual play which includes a 2-3 showing from the No. 1 position and a 7-6 performance from the No. 2 spot.
- Grace Schumacher has played primarily in the No. 1 spot for the Bulls, picking up an even 6-6 record, while also going 2-1 from the No. 1 position for an 8-7 overall record. Schumacher has shown success in doubles play as well, as she has teamed up with teammate Margriet Timmermans to lead the team with a 7-8 mark from the No. 2 position.
- The Owls are 0-2 all-time against the Bulls, last playing South Florida in the first round of the AAC tournament in 2017 where they fell, 4-0.
