Nicholson, Strachan Earn All-Conference Honors at AAC Outdoor Championships

WICHITA, Kan - The Temple track and field team finished ninth in the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Cessna Stadium. The three-day meet, which began on Friday consisted of 21 scored events that started with the hammer throw and concluded with the 4x400m relay. The Owls scored 42 points throughout the three days while UCF won the championships with 163 points. Temple's Laura Nicholson (1,500m, 800m) and Tannekee Strachan (triple jump) earned all-conference honors for their performances.
Meet Highlights:
On Friday, distance runners Helene Gottlieb and Nicholson qualified for Sunday's final in the 1,500m run as the two runners placed first and second, respectively, in their heat. Later on, graduate Michelle Joyce placed sixth in the 10,000m run as she scored three team points for the Owls.
The next day, Nicholson and Gottlieb qualified for a Sunday final once again, this time in the 800m run by posting times of 2:09.64 and 2:10.04, respectively. Shortly after, sprinter Marissa White placed second in her heat in the 400m dash with a time of 54.35 to move on to Sunday's final.
On championship Sunday, Strachan scored the first team points for the Owls in the triple jump with a personal-best 13.09m mark on her first attempt before pulling out of the event due to injury. The third-place finish for the junior earned six points for the Cherry & White. A few hours later in the high jump, freshman Amira Green scored four points for the Owls with a mark on 1.68m, a personal-best, while Jaaliyah Evans finished 10th with a personal-best of 1.63m.
Next, in the span of a few hours, Nicholson picked up a pair of silver medals in the 1,500m and 800m runs to earn a total of 16 team points for TU. The 16 points led Temple on the weekend despite this being her first outdoor track season. The final event of the meet consisted of the 4x400m relay where the Owls posted a time of 3:44.55 to earn five team points.
