Temple drops second straight AAC match to open conference play
TULSA, OKLA. – On Sunday the Temple Owls volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match to open the ACC season. The Owls were swept by the Golden Hurricane at the Reynolds Center, 17-25, 14-25, 13-25.
Temple falls to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Tulsa improves to 9-5 and 2-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Hurricane held the Owls to a .019 hitting percentage in the sweep, while they were able to hit .243 as a team.
- Tulsa's Kayley Cassaday led the match with 17 kills, while hitting .455.
- Four Golden Hurricane players had eight or more digs, while the team totaled 61.
- Taylor Davenport led the Owls with 10 kills on a match-high 42 attempts.
- Throughout the three sets, there were six ties and three lead changes.
Set 1 (Tulsa 25, Temple 17)
- Tulsa jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before the Owls went on a 4-2 run themselves that cut the Tulsa lead to two (7-5).
- The Golden Hurricane got to the media timeout first, as it extended its lead to five points, 15-10, by going on an 8-5 rally. After the one-minute break, the Cherry and White forced three errors, including back-to-back hitting errors from Bailey Rowe. Davenport and freshman Samantha Jo Mikosky recorded a block apiece to pull the Owls within one, 15-14.
- After the two teams traded a pair points, Tulsa scored six unanswered points, including nine of the last 11. Cassaday helped win the set for her team, 25-17, by notching four kills in the last 11 points.
Set 2 (Tulsa 25, Temple 14)
- With the score tied at 2-2, the Golden Hurricane forced Temple to call timeout, by scoring five straight points with the help of Rowe's three straight kills.
- Later in the set with Tulsa leading 12-10, the Golden Hurricane reeled off 11 straight points, forcing five Owls' hitting errors.
- Tulsa went on to win the set, 25-14, by hitting .423. Cassaday had seven on her match-high 17 kills in the set.
- Temple hit .069 with six errors on 29 attempts, tallying eight kills.
Set 3 (Tulsa 25, Temple 13)
- Tulsa scored multiple points seven times on its own sideout on its way to winning set three, 25-13.
- Neither squad hit a good percentage in the third set, but the Golden Hurricane were able to hit .154, while keeping the Owls to -.071.
