Men’s Basketball Falls to Memphis at the Buzzer, 61-59

PHILADELPHIA – Kendrick Davis hit a baseline jumper as time expired to lift Memphis to a 61-59 comeback win over Temple Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. Davis's winner came after Damian Dunn drained a three to tie the game with five seconds remaining. The Owls fall to 10-9 and 4-2 in American Athletic Conference play while the Tigers improve to 13-5 and 3-2.
Dunn led all scorers with 23 points while Nick Jourdain posted his first double-double of the season and second of his career, tallying a season-high 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Davis and DeAndre Williams each scored 20 points for the Tigers with Davis tallying 16 in second half.
First Half
> Williams scored eight points to spearhead a 10-2 Memphis run to the start the game.
> The Owls would answer with 10 consecutive points, taking a 12-10 lead on two free throws by Jourdain.
> After the Tigers ran off five straight to retake the lead (15-12), Dunn scored six straight in a 6-2 Temple run to make it 18-17 with just under eight minutes on the clock.
> Neither team was able to establish a rhythm offensively with the lead changing hands eight times in the half.
> The Owls tied the game at 23 on a Khalif Battle free throw following a flagrant foul call on Memphis' Jonathan Lawson with 1:03 on the clock.
> Davis made a driving layup with 26 seconds left to give the Tigers a 25-23 lead at the half.

> After a slow start to the half for both teams, the Owls scored seven straight to take their largest lead, 36-31, on a Dunn three-pointer with 13:09 to play.
> The Owls would extend their lead to nine, 45-36, following consecutive driving layups by White, with 8:49 on the clock.
> Memphis answered with a 7-0 run to make it a 45-43 game following a three-point play by Eijah McCadden.
> Temple rattled off four straight to extend the margin back to six, but Davis would score eight points in a 12-0 run to take a 55-51 lead with 2:55 left.
> The Owls answered with five straight, two free throws by Jourdain and a corner three from Battle to retake the lead, 56-55.
> Davis then made a driving layup to put the Tigers back on top. The Tigers then made a defensive stop and called timeout with 50.3 seconds to play.
> Temple held defensively, but a Dunn driving layup rimmed off with 13 seconds to play.
> Williams then converted two free throws to put Memphis ahead by three, 59-56.
> The Owls pushed the ball up with Dunn draining a deep three with just five seconds left to tie the game.
> Following a timeout, Davis drained a baseline jumper at the buzzer to lift the Tigers to victory.
Statistically Speaking
