1.17.23 | Cheerleading, Diamond Gems
ORLANDO – The Temple spirit squad had yet another tremendous showing at the 2023 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships held at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. The weekend was highlighted by a third-place finish in the Cheer Game Day Routine category from the Temple cheerleaders, along with a ninth-place finish in the Dance Game Day Routine category from the Diamond Gems.
With their third-place finish in the Cheer Game Day Routine category, the Temple cheerleaders continued to build on their culture of success, being the only program in the country to have finished in the top five of this category every year since the category's inception six years ago. The Owls beat out powerhouse schools such as Purdue and defending champion, Ole Miss for the third-place finish.
"I am so proud of the student-athletes and their hard work this season," Head Cheerleading Coach Jenna Komosinski said. "Division 1A continues to be one of the most competitive divisions at the National Championship and Temple Cheer has made a name for themselves among some of the best teams in the country!"
With the ninth-place finish in the Dance Game Day Routine Category, the Diamond Gems found their fifth top 10 finish in this category. In addition to their strong showing in the Dance Game Day Routine category, the Cherry and White competed in the Dance Hip-Hop Routine category, finishing in tenth place, just missing the finals by 0.14 points behind Florida State.
"I was overcome with emotions watching these passionate young men and women pour their hearts out on the floor with three powerful and entertaining performances," Director of Spirit Programs and Head Diamond Gems Coach Jennifer Keller said. "Representing Temple in the national spotlight is an honor and a privilege for these hard-working athletes who exude pride for their sport, our Athletics program and Temple University!"
