Gymnastics Earns First Place in Friday Night Quad Meet in McGonigle Hall

PHILADELPHIA – In front of a crowd of 1026, the Temple gymnastics team made its season debut in McGonigle Hall on Friday night with quad meet win. The Owls scored 193.650, followed by LIU with 192.875, Cornell in third place with a 191.450, and Bridgeport finished in fourth with a 191.225.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cherry and White earned three event victories on the evening, starting with Ashley Glynn on vault. Hannah Stallings won on beam in the third rotation, and Brooke Donabedian on the floor to end the evening.
  • TU held the lead throughout all four rotations, including earning a team season-high 48.625 on the vault in rotation one.
  • The Owls added six career-highs throughout the quad meet win, including a pair from sophomore Hannah Stallings
  • Temple came away with seven scores of 9.800 or better in the victory.
 
Vault (Rotation 1 – 48.625)
  • Ashley Glynn got the night started for Temple with her second straight vault victory, earning a 9.8, just shy of her career-high 9.850 from last week's tri-meet at UNH.
  • Temple's Madison Brooks (9.725), Renee Schugman (9.700), Mackenzie Aresta (9.700), and Hannah Stallings (9.700) all earned 9.7s. Brooks finished in sixth-place, while Schugman, Aresta and Stallings all finished for a tie of seventh.
 
Bars (Rotation 2 – 48.250)
  • Sisters Hannah Stallings and Sarah Stallings tied for second on bars, behind the 9.950 from Mara Titarsolej of LIU.
  • Hannah Stallings soared to a new career-high of 9.875, while Sarah Stallings tied her career-best with the same mark.
  • Cyrena Whalen finished in fifth place for Temple as she earned a 9.775, the third straight time meet the junior finished with a 9.700 on the bars this season.
 
Beam (Rotation 3 – 48.675)
  • Hannah Stallings, Brooke Donabedian, and Madison Dorunda earned three of the top-five spots on the beam.
  • Stallings took first place on the beam for her with second straight career-best score. The Raleigh, N.C. native finished with a  9.9, besting a 9.875 she set during the Keystone Classic to begin 2023.
  • The Maple Valley, Wash. native, Donabedian earned a season-high 9.875, good for a second-place result.
  • In the third rotation, Dorunda added a fifth-place finish with a 9.700, her third straight 9.700 or better to begin the season.
 
Floor (Rotation 4 – 48.100)
  • The Cherry and White's Summer Ruskey and Donabedian bookended the Temple floor rotation with outstanding scores, placing first and second. Ruskey finished in second place as she set a career-best mark of  9.875, while Donabedian earned a first-place with a 9.900.
  • A 9.700 from the Owls' Anna Hill earned the sophomore a top 10 score.
 
Up Next
Temple returns to action on Friday, Feb. 5 as they travel to Yale to compete against the Bulldogs. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
