Volleyball Drops Friday Match at Wichita State, 3-0

WICHITA, Kan. – The Temple volleyball team dropped its fifth straight match to Wichita State on Friday night at Koch Arena, this time by the score of 25-11, 25-13, 25-18.
In the loss, Temple falls to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in American Athletic Conference play. On the other side, the Shockers improved to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wichita State's Sophia Rohling led all players with 15 kills while hitting .522 in the victory.
- Temple graduate transfer Olivia Vance led the Owls with 12 kills while hitting a team-high .273.
- The Shockers hit .329 in the match while holding Temple to .096.
- Both teams had five team blocks in the match, while Owls' junior Chelci Banks led all players with five.
SET 1 (TU 11, WSU 25)
- Wichita State jumped out to an 8-1 run, including five straight points coming from kills from four different players.
- Natalie Foster and Rohling combined 10 kills to help the team to a .462 hitting percentage. Each of the two Shockers tallied five kills on six total attacks.
- The Owls were held to a .053 hitting percentage in the first set loss.
- Fellow Owls' graduate transfer Avery Luoma led the Cherry and White with four kills with one error on 10 total attacks, while hitting .300.
SET 2 (TU 13, WSU 25)
- Temple played Wichita State close to start the set (5-4), before Wichita State went on a 4-0 run.
- The Owls cut into the WSU lead in the middle of set two with a pair of Taylor Davenport kills to make the score 15-9, but the Shockers forced Temple into its first timeout of the set by extending their lead to seven points.
- The Shockers went onto win the set behind Rohling's four kills.
SET 3 (TU 18, WSU 25)
- After Temple jumped out to its first lead of the match, the two teams traded the only two ties of the third set over the next four points before the Shockers took the lead for good.
- Into the media timeout, Wichita State went on a 6-0 run and extended the lead to 15-8 lead. During that run, Rohling led WSU with a pair of kills, while Annalie Heliste connected with her only service ace of the match.
- Down by seven, 17-10, Vance cut the Shockers lead back to five points with back-to back kills.
- The combination of Vance and Banks helped the Owls cut the lead down to four, 19-15, with a pair of kills.
- WSU closed out the match to the Cherry and White by going on a 6-3 run.
