Allie Riches Sets Eighth Career Program Record as Track & Field Opens Season

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Temple track & field program kicked off its season with a bang at the Youree Spence Garcia Meet hosted by Saint John's University. Fifth year pole vaulter Allie Riches set a new benchmark for pole vaulters, recording a personal best mark of 4.10m. This is the eighth time in her career she has set a program record in the event.
Four Owls took first place in their respective events, Jade Pope (400m), Nya Browne (60m hurdles), Inara Shell (triple jump) and Obiamaka Igwenagu (long jump). All four are newcomers to the program.
Results
Temple has one other meet in December before taking a five week break. The Owls will compete in the Angry Birds Invitational hosted by Lehigh on Friday, Dec. 8th.

Results
- Jade Pope took first place in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 58.03.
- Freshman Nya Browne made an impact in her first ever collegiate meet. The Barbados native clocked a time of 8.78 in the 60m hurdles to take first place in the event. Fiona Carter (9.35) and Giovanna Jennings Scott (9.80) also ran in the event.
- Allie Riches tied for first place with professional pole vaulter Kaitlyn Dermen. Cierra Crane came in third (3.65m). Aliza Vega While (8th/3.35m), and Reece Sullivan (13th/3.20m) also jumped in the event.
- Browne, Madison Trout, and Terran Bolton ran the 60m dash. Browne led the pack in 9th place, covering the distance in 7.94 seconds.
- Freshman Laila Cottom was the lone Owl to run in the 500m. Cottom finished in 9th, running a time of 1:18.57.
- Holy Cross transfer Obiamaka Igwenagu took first place in the long jump while setting a personal best in her first ever event for Temple (5.64m). Inara Shell placed second in the event with a mark of 5.60m. Allyson Metzger, Reagan Schwartz, Jennings Scott, and Fiona Carter also jumped in the event.
- Browne placed second in the 200m dash (25.59 secs). Trout (26.45/11th) and Bolton (27.77/28th) competed as well in the event.
- Temple concluded the meet with the Triple Jump. Shell took first place (12.07m), with Igwenagu taking second (11.61m). Freshman Schwartz finished in 9th place (10.66m).
