Stanford, Riley Honored By AAC, Big 5

IRVING, Texas - Zion Stanford and Jordan Riley of the Temple men's basketball team have been honored by the American Athletic Conference in its weekly awards. Stanford was named the AAC Freshman of the Week and Riley was named to the conference weekly honor roll. Stanford was also named to the Big 5 honor roll.Â
Stanford averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 assists, shooting 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the field in a pair of games for the Owls. He posted career highs with 19 points and nine rebounds in the Big 5 Classic championship game against Saint Joseph's on Saturday. He went 7-for-11 from the field and keyed a second half comeback for Temple. Against La Salle on Wednesday, he tied then personal bests with 15 points and seven boards, connecting on 6-of-10 shots as the Owls downed La Salle 106-99 in a triple overtime thriller that advanced the Owls to the Big 5 championship game.
Riley averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the week while shooting 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the floor. On Saturday, he posted career highs with 20 points and eight rebounds as the Owls battled the Hawks. He also had a personal best three steals in the contest and tied a career high with three assists, adding two blocks. Five of his rebounds came on the offensive glass. Earlier in the week, he scored 16 with four rebounds, three assists and a block against the Explorers.Â
