Gymnastics Scores Season-High 195.450; Breaks Team Floor Record

2.19.23 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA – Temple gymnastics scored a season-best 195.450 on Sunday during the Ken Anderson Invitational and scored season-highs on the vault and bars while adding a school record 49.400 on floor. The Owls finished in third place behind NC State (196.475) and George Washington (196.075) but did finish ahead of fourth-place Penn who scored a 195.125.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Temple had nine gymnasts either tie or break their personal bests and four individuals break their career-highs with 9.9s or better on the four apparatuses.
  • Sarah Stallings (bars), Renee Schugman,(floor) and Brooke Donabedian (floor) earned shares of first place in their respective events.
  • The Cherry and White were in third place after each of the four rotations.

ROTATION 1 (VAULT – 48.900)
  • Temple opened on the vault with a season-high team score 48.900.
  • Anna Hill led Temple with a personal season-best score of a 9.800.
  • Mackenzie Aresta, Charlie Behner, Madison Brooks, and Renee Schugman matched one another with 9.775 scores. The 9.775 represent season bests for Aresta, Brooks, and Schugman, while freshman Behner tied her career-high from the Feb. 10 meet at Towson.

ROTATION 2 (BARS – 49.000)
  • On bars, the Owls earned a season-high score of 49.000, also tying for the ninth-highest score in program history.
  • Led by Sarah Stallings' career-high 9.900, the sophomore earned a share of first place, her fourth win on bars this season.
  • Junior Cyrena Whalen added her third 9.8 score this season as she tied a career-high 9.850.

ROTATION 3 (BEAM – 48.150)
  • Donabedian tied a career-high 9.900 on the beam, giving her fourth place on the night. It's the fourth time in the junior's career she would achieve a 9.900 score.
  • Madison Dorunda added a 9.825, the second-highest score on the season for the sophomore this season.  Dorunda has now scored at least a 9.7 in each of the seven meets this season, along with four straight 9.8-plus scores.
  • Julianna Roland also scored a 9.8, marking the third of the season for the New Jersey native.
  • Delaware native Ashley Glynn earned a 9.725, the second-highest score of the season for the freshman.

ROTATION 4 (FLOOR – 49.400)
  • Temple's 49.400 score broke the previous school record,49.375, that was tied two times in 2022 and set back in 2021.
  • Each of the six gymnasts racked up scores of 9.825 or better, including career-highs from Schugman (9.925), Summer Ruskey (9.875), Glynn (9.850), Hill (9.825), and Dorunda (9.825).
  • Tying with GW's Deja Chambliss and her teammate Schugman for first place, Brooke Donabedian scored a 9.925, matching her season-best mark from the Friday, Feb. 17 quad meet at George Washington.
