Gymnastics Falls to North Carolina in EAGL Dual Meet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Friday, the Temple Owls' gymnastics team fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels, 195.825-194.950, in Carmichael Arena. Junior Renee Schugman highlighted the evening for Owls on the floor exercise with her second straight first-place finish.

UP NEXT
Temple will return to gym on Sunday, Feb. 26 in a tri meet against LIU and NC State at the Pratt Rec Center in Brookville, N.Y. Start time is slated to begin at 2 p.m. The Owls will return McGonigle Hall next week with a pair of home quad meets. Starting with the My Cause Meet on Thursday, March 2 at 4 p.m. and then turnaround three days later with the Senior Day Meet on March 5 at 4 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Along with Schugman, 10 other Temple gymnasts added top five results.
- 16 Owl gymnasts scored a 9.7 or better throughout the EAGL dual meet.
- Temple defeated UNC on the floor, 48.900-48.600.
- Freshman Ashley Glynn competed in her third straight all-around competition, finishing in second place with a 38.475.
Rotation 1 (Bars – 48.775)
- Five of the six Owls scored at least a 9.7 in the bars rotation, including junior Cyrena Whalen's team-best and fourth-place score of 9.825.
- Whalen's 9.825 tied her second highest scores this season, while tallying her third 9.8 score in 2023.
- Madison Dorunda put together a 9.775, earning a career-high, while Hannah Stallings (9.750) added her seventh 9.7 or higher this year.
Rotation 2 (Vault – 48.500)
- Schugman and Anna Hill tied for fifth place as they both scored a team-high of 9.750.
- The junior Schugman earned her third score of 9.7 or better this year, while Hill recorded her fifth such score.
- Charlie Behner scored a 9.725, earning her fifth 9.7 or better this season as well.
Rotation 3 (Floor – 48.900)
- Three of the top four scores on the floor came from Temple.
- Schugman led the Owls as she picked up first place on the floor as she tied with UNC's Kaya Forbes with a 9.850.
- Along with Schugman, Brooke Donabedian (9.825), Glynn (9.825), and Summer Ruskey (9.800) added 9.8 scores. Both Donabedian and Glynn earned a tie for third place while the Maple Valley, Wash. native Donabedian added her fifth score of 9.8 or higher this season. Glynn and Ruskey have tabulated their third and fourth, respectively.
Rotation 4 (Beam – 48.775)
- Dorunda and Donabedian closed out the evening with 9.825s, earning a tie for second place.
- Glynn and Schugman added scores of 9.700 or better with a 9.750 and 9.700 score, respectively.
