2.22.23 | Men's Tennis

Philadelphia – The No. 72 Temple men's tennis team (5-2) will host the likes of Norfolk St. (1-2) on Saturday followed by the Siena Saints (4-3) coming to Philadelphia on Sunday. Both matches will be held at the Hecht Tennis Center on Penn's campus and will begin at 4 p.m.

The OWLS:
  • No. 72 Temple is coming off a victory over the Wagner Seahawks on Sunday, Feb. 12. Since then, the Owls have been off and working hard for the upcoming stretch of spring matches.
  • The Owls have displayed great depth throughout the spring so far. They are led by Marin Delmas who is 5-2 from the first position in singles, and 5-2 with partner Gregoire Barety from the first position in doubles. In addition, Thibault Frumholz and Louis Gorregues provide great balance to the starting lineup. Frumholz is 4-1 and Gorregues is 5-1 in singles play this spring.
  • After dropping their first two matches of the spring, the Cherry and White haven't allowed their opponent to score a point since the Monmouth match on Feb. 4 when the Owls won 6-1.

Scouting Norfolk St.:
  • The Spartans are led by graduate-student Federico Rebecchini who is a two-time All-MEAC selection. Of the six total members on the team, four of the six are freshmen or sophomores. Rebecchini and senior Ibrahim Abbas provide the upperclassmen presence.
  • Rebecchini is 1-2 so far this spring in singles play with all his appearances coming from the first position. He is also 1-2 in doubles with partner Boris Lunin.
  • Norfolk's victory came against the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Feb. 15 defeating them by a final of 6-1.
  • This weekend, the Spartans will play back-to-back-to-back matches versing the likes of Drexel and Temple in Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday before heading to Baltimore, MD., to face Loyola on Sunday.

Scouting Siena:
  • The Saints currently sit at 4-3 picking up wins against Holy Cross, Binghamton, LIU, and Lafayette throughout the fall and spring seasons so far.
  • Sunday will mark only the second time that Siena and Temple have faced off in men's tennis history, with the Owls holding a 1-0 advantage from the matchup held on Feb. 25, 2022.
  • Siena will also have a busy weekend ahead playing three matches in three days. They will travel to Bucknell on Friday and Lehigh on Saturday before coming to Philadelphia to face Temple on Sunday.
  • Last season, the Saints finished with a 14-9 overall record making it to the MAAC Semifinal Round before losing to then-No. 3 Quinnipiac Bobcats, 4-3.
