Women’s Tennis Hosts Back-to-Back Matches for Busy Weekend Slate

Philadelphia – The Temple women's tennis team (5-1) is coming off their most recent win on Tuesday, Feb. 21 against FDU. The Owls will now host Norfolk St. (1-4) and Siena (3-5) on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21 and 22, at the Hecht Tennis Center on Penn's campus. Both matches will begin at 4:00 p.m.

The OWLS:
- Temple's win streak sits at four after most recently defeating the FDU Knights on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 7-0 behind a fantastic team effort.
- No. 8 Jamie Wei and Maiko Uchijima have a 4-0 record in doubles so far this spring. If you combine their fall and spring records, they are a collective 18-1 in the 2022-23 season.
- Thamara Frasser Kawaratani continues to impress in her first full year with the Cherry and White. She is now 4-1 in singles and 3-1 with partner Sena Takebe in doubles this spring.
- After this weekend, the Owls have the following week off before traveling to Drexel on March 8 to face the Dragons.
Scouting Norfolk St.:
- Norfolk St. will be playing a doubleheader on Saturday playing both Temple and Drexel followed by a trip down to Baltimore, MD., to face Loyola on Sunday.
- The Spartans collected their sole win in their most recent match against Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Norfolk St. won, 5-2.
- Amber Fuller leads the Spartans with eight total wins in singles play so far this spring. Her, along with partner Aleksandra Evdokimova also lead the team in doubles wins with six, all from the first position.
- Norfolk St. kept busy in the fall by participating in both the Elon and NCCU Invitationals after finishing with a 3-15 record last season.
Scouting Siena:
- The Saints are coming off a tight 4-3 victory against Providence on Sunday, Feb. 19 to earn their third victory of the season.
- Siena has a full weekend ahead playing Bucknell on Friday and Lehigh on Saturday before coming to Philadelphia to take on the Owls on Sunday.
- Anastasia Koniaev leads Siena in singles victories so far this spring with nine. Laia Giralt and Meagan Brown have 10 victories as a doubles pairing. Each of them are from the first position.
- The Owls and Saints have only faced off once before on Feb. 25, 2022. The Owls won the match 7-0. Siena will look to even the series with a win apiece on Sunday.
