With Three Matches in Two Days, Men’s Tennis Looks to Keep On the Winning Track

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis team (2-2) will stay busy over the weekend, hosting three matches in just two days. They start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club when St. Francis College of Brooklyn (1-5), and Coppin State (0-0) come to town before hosting Wagner (0-1) on Sunday, Feb. 12 with the match scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Penn.

The Owls:
- The Cherry and White have found their stride over the past week, beating both Howard and the reigning MAAC Champions, Monmouth to even their record at 2-2.
- Louis Gorregues had a dominant performance this weekend going 4-0 over the two matches. He and doubles partner Hussein El Tawil went 2-0 after they were moved from the second position to the third in doubles play. They were 1-1 coming into the weekend and now sit at 3-1. Gorregues then went 2-0 from the third position in singles play, a position he hadn't played from all season.
- Marin Delmas has also played very well of late for Temple. He has only operated out of the first position so far this season and now sits at 2-2 after going undefeated in singles play against Monmouth and Howard. He and doubles partner Greg Barety also went 2-0 from the first position in doubles play for the Owls this past weekend.
- After competing this weekend, the Owls have the entire following week off before playing host to Norfolk State on February 25.
Scouting SFBK:
- The Terriers of St. Francis College come to Temple with a 1-5 record most recently dropping their match against St. Francis (PA) on Sunday, Feb. 5, 4-3.
- In St. Francis' victory over Duquesne last weekend, junior Assil Boussayri headlined for the Terriers winning from the first position in singles play and third position in doubles play with partner Luis Foix Sotos.
- During the fall, both Assil Boussayri and Leon Harder were honored by the Northeast Conference with Boussayri winning NEC Player of the Month and Harder winning NEC Rookie of the Month for their accomplishments through November.
- The last time St. Francis College of Brooklyn visited Philadelphia for a match against Temple was last season on February 5, 2022, when the Owls won, 6-1.
Scouting Coppin State:
- The Eagles will open their spring schedule at Cherry Hill on Friday morning after finishing last year with a 1-13 record losing to NC Central in the first round of the MEAC Tournament.
- Coppin State is headlined by junior Vansh Kapoor and freshman Rishi Jalota who were featured in the Loyola Greyhound Classic this past fall as a doubles pair, finishing in third place.
- Senior Luka Markovic was honored at the end of last season, receiving MEAC Second Team All-Conference honors. He was joined by now-graduate, Sergui Medesan on that list representing the first time in Coppin State history that two players were named to the All-Conference team.
- The Eagles have faced off against Temple twice prior to this weekend's match, the last time being on March 29, 2016, when the Owls won, 7-0.
Scouting Wagner:
- Wagner men's tennis opened their spring season against Navy on Sunday, Feb. 5 being swept, 7-0. They are set to face off in a doubleheader with St. John's University scheduled for Friday morning before heading to Philadelphia on Sunday to take on the Owls.
- The Seahawks competed in the Navy Gold Invitational in November to prepare for the spring season. The junior duo of Rodrigo Perez and Odeda Arazza went 3-1 during the tournament, beating two different teams representing Navy along with one pairing from NJIT.
- Odeda Arazza battled against Navy on Sunday afternoon, playing from the fourth position in singles play, falling 6-3, and 7-5 to Navy freshman, Herrick Legaspi.
- Wagner and Temple have faced off a total of six times prior to this weekend with the Owls most recently beating Wagner, 6-1 on Feb. 22, 2020.
