Men’s Basketball Ends Season with Loss to Cincinnati in the AAC Quarterfinals

FORT WORTH, Texas – Fourth-seed Cincinnati overcame an early double-figure deficit and ended fifth-seed Temple's season with an 84-54 win in the American Athletic Conference Quarterfinal round Friday afternoon at Dickies Arena. The Owls end their season at 16-16 while the Bearcats improve to 21-11.
Damian Dunn, Zach Hicks and Jamille Reynolds led the Owls with 12 points each while Jahlil White added 10. Hicks had a team-high eight rebounds while Hysier Miller had a game-high five assists.
Landers Nolley II (22) Dan Skillings, Jr. (20) and Mika Adams-Woods (20) all scored 20 or more points for the Bearcats. Ody Oguama pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds while Viktor Lakhin tied an AAC Championship record with seven blocked shots.
First Half
> Temple jumped out to an early 10-point lead, 16-6, courtesy of 11-0 run. The Owls drained three triples in the run, the first by Miller with the final two by Hicks.
> Cincinnati answered with its own 12-2 run to tie the game at 18 on three by Nolley.
> The Bearcats would take the lead and extend it to double figures, 33-23, on consecutive threes by Nolley and Adams-Woods and a layup by Lakhin.
> Cincinnati would extend the margin to a dozen, 37-25, before a Reynolds basket made it 37-27 at the break.
Second Half
> Neither team could make shots to start the second half as the Bearcats connected on 2-of-10 in the first five minutes while the Owls missed their first five from the field before a Reynolds basket at 15:51 made it 42-29.
> A basket by Skillings and a three by Adams-Woods extended the margin to 18, 47-28, with 14:30 to play.
> The Owls cut the lead to a dozen (54-42) following a basket by White and a three by Miller, but the Bearcats answered with threes by Nolley and Skillings to force a Temple timeout with just under eight minutes to play.
> Cincinnati continued to open the game up, scoring 15 of the next 20 points to break the game wide open, 75-47, with 4:39 to play.
