Women’s Tennis Prepares For Blue Hens and Bearcats In Spring Play

Philadelphia – Temple women's tennis (9-1) will play host to both the the Delaware Blue Hens (11-2) and Binghamton Bearcats (0-17) this week as they near the midway point of the season. UD will visit the Cherry Hill Racquet Club on Wednesday, March 15 while the Bearcats will head to Temple's campus and play at the TU Pavilion on Saturday morning. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.

THE OWLS:
- Temple is coming off a win against the Marist Red Foxes on Friday morning, March 10. The 7-0 victory marked the eighth straight win for the women's team after starting their spring season 1-1.
- The Owls have had great success in doubles this spring winning the point in every match since their loss to WVU on Jan. 21. Behind the duo of No. 12 Jamie Wei and Maiko Uchijima, Evie Wei and Veronika Kulhava are 9-1 from the second position and Sena Takebe and Thamara Frasser Kawaratani are 5-1 from the third position this spring.
- Maiko Uchijima continues to impress in her first season with the Owls. The freshman has a combined 18-2 singles record this season followed by a 22-1 record with partner Jamie Wei in doubles. She and Wei won Temple Athletics' Athletes of the Week Award for their performance during the last week of February 2023.
SCOUTING DELAWARE:
- The Blue Hens have won ten-straight matches most recently beating George Washington University on Sunday, March 12 by a final score of 6-1.
- Delaware's only losses came in back-to-back matches against now No. 22 Syracuse and Penn in the last week of January.
- UD is led by No. 5 duos pair Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova who have been dominant this season. This is Abidullina's first season as a Blue Hen spending her four years of undergrad at Central Oklahoma. Last year, she posted 17-0 singles record and went 18-1 in doubles.
- March 15 will mark the 21st matchup between the Temple and Delaware women's tennis teams. The last match was on March 17, 2022 with Temple winning, 4-3.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON:
- The Bearcats are still searching for their first victory of the season after most recently losing to Columbia University on Sunday, March 5.
- Before visiting the Owls on Saturday, Binghamton is scheduled to face the Wagner Seahawks on Friday, March 17 at noon.
- Binghamton is led by Natalia Aruj who has a 7-7 singles record so far this spring. The sophomore got off to a great start in the fall going a combined 9-1 in singles play throughout the three different invitationals and matches they participated in.
- Saturday will mark the 10th matchup between the Bearcats and the Owls with the last match being played on April 2, 2022. Temple has the advantage in the series eight games to one.
