Women’s Tennis Prepares for Sunday Match with Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis (9-2) team will visit the Penn Quakers (8-4) on Sunday, March 19 for a match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. It will take place on Penn's campus at the Hecht Tennis Center.

THE OWLS:
- Temple is coming off only their second loss of the season to the Delaware Blue Hens on Wednesday, March 15. No. 12 Maiko Uchijima and Jamie Wei defeated UD's top doubles pair of Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova who currently rank as No. 5 in the nation.
- Maiko Uchijima was the only player who secured a point in singles play against Delaware. With her victory in the fifth position of she improved her spring record to 12-1 and 19-2 including the fall season.
- Against Delaware, freshman Sydney Hua made her debut of the spring in the second position of doubles play with Sena Takebe. Throughout the fall competitions, Hua went 4-4 in doubles play.
- Following the match against Penn, Temple then has the week off before visiting Princeton on Friday, March 24.
SCOUTING PENN
- The Quakers are coming off two straight losses over the past week to Arizona on Thursday, March 9 and No. 27 Arizona State on Saturday, March 11.
- Last season, Penn was led by then-freshman Sabine Rutlauka who finished with a 18-2 overall record in singles play going 9-0 in the spring with all nine matches coming from the first position.
- In doubles, the Quakers most successful pair was Iris Gallo and Maya Urata who finished 11-2 overall and 9-1 in the spring. All their spring appearances came in the second or third position for Penn.
- After facing Temple on Saturday, Penn will have one more match versus FDU on March 25 before starting conference play within the Ivy League.
- Last season, the Quakers finished with a 15-9 overall record while going 5-2 in conference play. They finished second in the Ivy League behind only Princeton who finished 6-1 in conference play.
