Jourdain’s Putback Lifts Temple to 57-55 Win Over UCF

PHILADELPHIA – Nick Jourdain had a putback off a missed Damian Dunn free throw with less than a second to play to lift Temple to a 57-55 win over UCF Thursday night at the Liacouras Center. With the victory, the Owls (16-14, 10-7 AAC) secured a first round bye in next week's American Athletic Conference Championship. UCF falls to 16-13, 7-10.
Dunn led a balanced scoring attack for Temple with a team-high 11 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and added four assists. Jourdain, who had a game-high nine rebounds, and Zach Hicks added 10 points each while Jahlil White added eight points and eight rebounds.
C.J. Kelly led three UCF double-figure scorers with a game-high 19 points.
First Half
> Temple struggled early, making just one of its first five shots in falling behind 10-4.
> After the teams traded threes, the Owls ran off seven straight points to take its first lead of the game, 16-15, on a Hysier Miller three.
> Nearly three minutes elapsed before Hicks connected on a jumper to make it 18-15 with 5:20 on the clock.
> A Kelly three finally broke UCF's over seven minute scoring drought, tying the game at 18.
> Jahlil White then made a hook and two free throws to give the Owls their largest lead, 22-18, and the Owls would head into the break up two (22-20) following a Darius Johnson layup.
> Both teams played solid defense with Temple shooting just 33 percent from the field and UCF a mere 29 percent.
Second Half
> Temple jumped out quickly, scoring seven of the first nine with Dunn's jumper, his first points of the game, making it 29-22.
> The Owls would extend the margin to double figures, 45-34, following a Jamille Reynolds putback slam with just under 11 minutes to play.
> UCF would answer with Kelly scoring nine points in an 15-3 run to take a, 49-48, with 3:24 to play.
> Hicks finally ended the run with two free throws to give the Owls back the lead, 50-49.
> Kelly made one of two free throws to tie the game (50-50), but Dunn answered with an eight-foot jumper in the lane to put Temple back on top.
> Kelly then cut the deficit to one, 52-51, on a free throw following a steal.
> After a missed three by Miller, Hendricks made a pull up jumper to give the Knight a 53-52 lead with 28 seconds remaining.
> Following a timeout, Dunn was fouled and converted both free throws to put the Owls back on top. 54-53.
> Kelly made a layup with 8 seconds left to put the Knights back on top, 55-54, and setup a wild finish.
> Dunn drove to the basket and was fouled with two seconds on the clock. He made the first, but the second rimmed off. Jourdain, however, was there for the game-winner.

> Temple held the AAC's best three-point shooting team to six-of-23 (26.1%) from long range.
> The Owls honored Hall of Famer John Baum at halftime as tonight's game was his last Temple radio broadcast. He retired after 25 years with Temple radio,
> Temple out-rebounded UCF, 34-23.
