Men’s Tennis to Host Rider on Wednesday in Cherry Hill

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis (13-2) will play host to the Rider Broncs (4-7) on Thursday, March 24 at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club with the match beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Owls will look to continue its recent success winning thirteen straight as they near the end of the spring season.
THE OWLS:
- The Owls went 2-0 this past week defeating both the University of Delaware Blue Hens and Xavier all while keeping its thirteen-game win streak alive.
- Temple's Thibault Frumholz was named Temple Athletics' Athlete of the Week for his performance through both of those matches. The graduate student singlehandedly secured the match point against the Blue Hens while also going 2-0 in both appearances against Xavier. On the spring so far, he has a 10-2 singles record and a 10-3 doubles record with partner Leo Raquin.
- Sophomore Hussein El Tawil has provided great stability for the Owl's in the latter half of singles play. From the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions, he has a 9-4 record this spring, 14-6 overall including tournament play. In doubles, El Tawil and Louis Gorregues are 8-1 from the third position.
SCOUTING RIDER:
- The Broncs are 4-7 on the spring but are most recently coming off a 7-0 sweep of the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Thursday, March 16. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Rider which dated back to the North Dakota match on Saturday, Jan. 21.
- Last season, Rider finished with a 2-13 record collecting wins against Wagner College and Bloomsburg.
- Senior Pablo Salar Carrera was the sole Rider player last season to play in the first position of singles. He had 14 appearances in the spring and three in the fall. In their most recent win, Salar Carrera blanked the Wisconsin-Superior player in the fifth position to pick up a point for the Broncs.
- Rider and Temple have faced off seven total times prior to this week with the most recent match taking place on April 12, 2017. Temple has won each contest dating back to April 7, 2009, when they played first.
