Men’s Tennis Preps for Hampton and George Mason in Back-to-Back Matches This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis (14-2) prepares for two matches this weekend with the Hampton Pirates (5-5) on Saturday, March 24 and the George Mason Patriots (4-5) on Sunday, March 25. The Owls look to continue their winning streak which currently sits at 14 straight.
The OWLS:
- Temple looks to keep their win streak alive with back-to-back matches this weekend.
- Most recently, the Owls beat the Rider Broncs on Wednesday, March 22 by a final score of 7-0 to close out their two-game homestand before the head on the road for three straight.
- The Owls have played the duo of Thibault Frumholz and Leo Raquin from the first position in doubles for the past four matches. They are 4-0 in that stretch and 11-3 as a pair throughout spring play so far. Only Hussein El Tawil and Louis Gorregues have a better record going 12-2 in the spring.
- After picking up both a singles and doubles win on Wednesday, Marin Delmas now has the 4th most career wins in program history with 76.
- The Pirates are 5-5 on the spring season so far, most recently winning over Queens University of Charlotte by a final score of 4-3 on Wednesday, March 15.
- Before facing the Owls on Saturday, Hampton will visit George Mason University on Friday.
- So far this spring, Ange-Kevin Koua leads the Pirates in wins with a 6-3 record in singles play so far. He is 5-0 from the fourth position and 1-2 from the second and third spots.
- In doubles, the pairing of Erden Er and Daniel Flynn has the best record so far. They are 6-3 overall but 5-3 from the first position while also on a four-match win streak.
- Last season, the Pirates finished with a 6-14 overall record. They hosted Temple on Friday, March 25, 2022, with the Owls winning 7-0.
- George Mason is most recently coming off a 4-0 victory over St. Francis University on Friday, March 17. They currently have a 4-5 record on the spring season facing Temple on Sunday, March 25, before hosting Richmond on Friday, March 31.
- So far this spring, sophomore Niza Simunyola leads George Mason in singles' wins with a 7-2 overall record. He preformed well in the fall as well going 11-3 in tournament play. Simunyola's versatility is on full display having at least one appearance in every position this spring except the third. He is also 7-3 in his last 10 matches.
- In doubles, Monil Lotlikar and Rithik Sardana are the only pair who have played from the first position this spring. They have a 5-3 record and have won their previous two matches.
- Sunday will mark the fifth time that the Temple Owls have played the George Mason Patriots in men's tennis. Temple currently holds a 4-0 record in the series with the most recent match taking place on April 10, 2022.
