Owls Fall to Princeton In First of Three Matches This Weekend

PRINCETON, NJ – The Temple women's tennis team (10-4) suffered the loss to No. 46 Princeton (9-6) on Friday, March 24, by a final score of 6-1. This marks the first of three road matches on Temple's schedule this weekend.

NOTES:
  • Temple was without starter Jamie Wei against the Tigers on Friday resulting in changes for the doubles teams. Thamara Frasser Kawaratani was paired with Ginevra Perietti for the first time this spring, debuting in the first position. Maiko Uchijima was back in the lineup after missing the past couple of matches and was teamed with Sena Takebe in the third position.
  • Veronika Kulhava and Evie Wei stayed together in the second position picking up the only win in doubles play for Temple.
  • Princeton's No. 4 Daria Frayman defeated Kawaratani in the first position of singles play before the Tigers went on to win all singles points except for one.
  • Temple's Maiko Uchijima won in the fourth position to pick up her 13th singles victory of the spring and 20th of the season including tournament play.

"The women fought hard today against a tough Princeton team," head coach Steve Mauro said. "Unfortunately, we had to play without a few of our starters which hurt us, but I was happy with the way everyone fought and competed today. Hopefully, we can rebound tomorrow against Hampton."

The Owls will face off against the Hampton Pirates tomorrow, Saturday, March 25. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 and take place on Navy's courts in Annapolis, MD.
