Allie Riches Sets Outdoor Pole Vault Record as Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season

RALEIGH, N.C. & ORLANDO, FL – The Temple track & field program got off to a strong start for the outdoor season Friday. Most of the team competed at the Knights Invitational on the campus of UCF, while indoor All-Conference distance runner Laura Nicholson and freshman Elvira Bredin ran at the Raleigh Relays in the 1500m.
Allie Riches headlined as she did all of indoor season, setting a new program best for outdoor pole vault (3.80m/12.5ft). Riches now holds the program record for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault.

- Nicholson had a standout performance, finishing with a time of 4:22.93, just two seconds short of her PR and good for 25th place in a field of 185 runners.
- Bredin clocked a time of 4:33.85, finishing in 99th.
- Allyson Metzger set a new Outdoor PR in the long jump (5.35m/17.55ft).
- Tannekee Strachan placed 9th in the long jump with a distance of 5.56m/18.4ft.
- Kwanda Knight finished just .5 seconds short of her personal best in the 400m hurdles.
- Michelle Frowijn placed in 11th out of 55 runners in the 1500m.
- Chelby Elam placed 18th out of 61 in the 200m, she clocked a time of 24.84 seconds, .15 short of her personal best.
- Temple hits the track again tomorrow in both Orlando and Raleigh.
