3.6.23 | Women's Tennis
Philadelphia – Temple women's tennis (7-1) will take the short trip across town to face city rival Drexel (5-7) on Wednesday afternoon, March 8, at the Vidas Courts. The match is set to begin at noon.
THE OWLS:
- Temple women's tennis last played on Feb. 26 against Siena defeating the Saints by a final score of 6-1. Siena's lone point came in the third position of singles play after Temple won the doubles point to take an early lead.
- The Owls' Sena Takebe quietly creates an impact for herself and her teammates. This spring, she is 6-2 in singles play and has only played out of the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions. In doubles, Takebe, and partner Thamara Frasser Kawaratani have accumulated a 3-1 record with all four matches being from the third position.
- In her final year with the Owls, graduate-student Jamie Wei continues to have a perfect spring sitting at 6-0 out of both the first and second position in singles play. In doubles, her and partner Maiko Uchijima are also 6-0 out of the first position and are No. 8 in the nation.
- After going 10 days without a match, Temple will now play three matches in one week starting with Drexel on Wednesday, Marist on Friday, followed by UD on Wednesday, March 15.
SCOUTING DREXEL:
- The Dragons currently sit at 5-7 after losing two straight to Penn and most recently NJIT on Saturday, March 4.
- Last year, the Drexel women finished with a 6-13 record, losing to then-No. 3 University of Delaware in the first round of the CAA playoffs.
- This season, the Dragons are led by sophomore Lorie Lemongo who sits at 15-5 on the regular season, and 8-3 alone this spring with every match being from the first position. In doubles, her and partner Renata Lombera are 7-2 from the first position this spring.
- After this match, Drexel will then head on the road for three straight matches facing Towson on Saturday, March 11, and then will head to Florida to face Lynn and Nova Southeastern.
