Tampa, Fl – The Temple track & field team saved the best for last at the American Athletic Conference outdoor championships. Five Owls scored for the Cherry & White, including middle distance runner Laura Nicholson. The native of Ireland became the first Owl to take gold in the 1500m event since Bianca Fernandez in 2019. She also placed second in the 800m.

How it Happened

Program record holder Allie Riches set her seventh program record of the season with a mark of 4.07m (13 4 ¼ ft) in the pole vault. This is also a personal record for her and will likely send her to East Regionals. She earned five points in the event.
Tannekee Strachan earned a point in the triple jump, finishing in eighth place (12.36m/ 40' 6 ¾ ft).
The 4x100m team tied its outdoor season best with a time of 46.76.
Nicholson ran a time of 4:20.43 in the 1500m with a margin of 2.5 seconds better than second place. Her time is the fastest in Temple conference championship history.
Chidumga Nkulume had her second straight personal best in the 400m, clocking a time of 54.24. She placed fifth in the event to score four points.
High jumper Amira Green had her second best performance of the season, clearing 1.73m (5-8 ft), just .01 meter short of her personal best. She finished 10^th overall.
Elvira Bredin and Nicholson finished sixth and second, respectively in the 800m final. Bredin clocked a time of 2:10.54, while Nicholson, claiming silver in the event for the second straight year, ran 2:08.11.
The 4x400m team of Nkulume, Lauren Greig, Bredin, and Marissa White earned three points running a time of 3:44.38, the second best time of the year.
