Nicholson and Riches Qualify for NCAA Track & Field East Regional

PHILADELPHIA – Two Temple Owls will compete in the NCAA East Regional as Laura Nicholson and Allie Riches qualified in their respective events. The meet will take place from May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fl. at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
The Owls
> Laura Nicholson qualified for the 1500m run with an outstanding time of 4:15.89 to set a new school benchmark during the Temple Invite hosted at the Temple Sports Complex. She also earned gold in the event at the AAC Outdoor Championships. The native of Ireland also ran in the 1500m at the NCAA East Regional last year.
> Allie Riches jumped her way to the regional in the pole vault. The first-year transfer set seven school records this season, culminating in a mark of 4.07m (13' 4.25 ft) at the AAC Championships to punch her ticket. She is the first ever pole vaulter to represent Temple at an NCAA meet.
About the NCAA East Regional
> The men's events will begin on Wednesday, May 24 while the women will start on Thursday, May 25.
> The first round of the 1,500m run will take place at 6:30pm, on May 25 while the quarterfinals for the events begin on May 27 at 5:15 pm. The first round for the women's pole vault commences at 6:30pm on May 25.
> The top 12 individuals in each event will earn a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which runs from June 10-13 in Austin, Tx.
