Men’s Soccer to Open 2023 Season at Monmouth

PHILADELPHIA- Temple men's soccer is amped to get started this week against CAA opponent Monmouth University on Thursday, August 24. The match is set for 7 p.m. at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn in West Long Branch, New Jersey and will broadcast live on FloSports. The match will be Bryan Green's first in the cherry and white. 

The Owls open the 2023 season on the road, playing 10 away matches this season. Meanwhile, the Owls will play seven matches at the Temple Sports Complex. Attendance is free for all fans. 

"We are excited to get started with our 2023 season," head coach Green said. "It will be a very challenging schedule both with the quality of our opponents as well as having 10 road games. But we are a group that loves a challenge, and we look forward to playing in all the different environments.  It will also make us that much more motivated to make the most of the few chances we get to play at home in front of our fans." 

Draven Barnett, a sophomore midfielder, is a native of Springfield, Missouri. Majoring in finance, Barnett is returning after a successful freshman campaign for the Owls. He was named to the 2022 All-AAC Rookie and Philly Soccer Six All-Rookie team. Barnett started and played in 14 matches last season, ranking third in minutes for Temple. Barnett was the sixth-consecutive Owl to earn AAC All-Rookie honors. 

Rocco Haeufgloeckner, a sophomore midfielder/defender, ventures from Kirchzell, Germany. Majoring in engineering, Haeufgloeckner will play a crucial role in the Owls' midfield. He played in 13 matches last season, starting in nine. Haeufgloeckner accumulated three assists in his freshman season, including forcing a key turnover and the game-winning assist in the Owls' 1-0 victory against FAU on October 14.  

George Medill, a sophomore midfielder, born in Overland Park, Kansas, is another underclassman looking to help the Temple squad. He is majoring in Business Management. Medill played in the Owls' last 14 matches, making nine starts and enumerating one goal and two assists. He scored his first career goal against No. 22 Tulsa on October 22.  

Scouting Monmouth

-The Hawks finished with a 7-7-1 overall record in 2022, including a 2-6-1 conference record in the CAA. Monmouth finished in ninth place in the CAA, missing the conference playoffs. 

-Forward Ben Zakowski was named pre-season All-CAA after tallying 16 points last season, which included seven goals and two assists. He ranked among the top ten scorers in the CAA last season. 
-Goalkeeper Eryk Dymora was also named pre-season All-CAA as a member of last year's All-CAA Rookie team. Dymora started all 15 matches and posted a .750 save percentage with 45 saves. He posted six shutouts last season. 

Series History 

-This is the first time Temple and Monmouth have faced each other.
