Golf Opens Season with Second Place Showing at Cornell Fall Invitational

WATCHUNG, N.J. - Junior Ethan Whitney shot a three-under 139 to lead Temple to a second-place finish in the 11-team Cornell Fall Invitational Monday at the Watchung Valley Golf Club. Whitney tied for third overall in the field, shooting a 69 in the opening round and ending the 36-hole tournament with a 70.
Recapping the Tournament
> After a suspended first round that started Sunday and was completed Monday morning, the Owls were in fifth place at nine-over, 13 shots behind first place Siena. Â
> On the strength of three Owls shooting sub-par rounds, Temple finished four-under for its final round to move into the runner up slot, but the Owls were unable to catch the Saints.
> Transfers Aidan Emmerich (Michigan State) and Jake Haberstumpf (Moravian) led the surge in the final round, each carding two-under 69s.  Emmerich tied for 10th at one-over (143) for the tourney while Haberstumpf finished deadlocked for 12th at two-over (144).
> Lafayette transfer Michael Walsh rounded out the Owls scorers with a 72 for his final round. He finished the day tied for 21st with a five-over 147.
> Senior Graham Chase was seven-over (149) for the tournament to tie for 31st while senior Andrew Curran, playing as an individual, tied with Walsh for 21st with a five-over 147.
Team Results
> Siena won the tournament, finishing at 10-under. Second place Temple (+5) was one stroke better than Colgate while Bucknell (+10) and host Cornell (+11) rounded out the top five.
> Siena's Matt Ferrari took home medalist honors at six-under, edging Colgate's Kevin Hollomon (-4) by two strokes. Â
