Track and Field Competes at Nittany Lion Challenge

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Temple track and field team resumed its indoor season with a strong showing at the Nittany Lion Challenge in State College. 

Allie Riches took home Temple's top finish, tying for first in pole vault. In total, the Owls tallied 10 top-10 placements against a competitive field of 17 schools. Temple saw three indoor personal records and three podium finishes.

Results

  • In the pole vault, Riches tied for first with a mark of 3.63 meters. The first-place finish is the third consecutive podium finish for Riches to start off the indoor season. Cierra Crane tied for fifth with a height of 3.48 meters.
  • Temple represented well in the long jump, taking three top-10 finishes. Inara Shell led the way, tying for third place with a mark of 5.67 meters. Obiamaka Igwenagu placed fifth at 5.63 meters and Alyson Metzger took 10th at 5.16 meters.
  • The Owls saw similar success in the triple jump, highlighted by Igwenagu's third-place finish at 12.22 meters. Shell was just behind in fourth at 12.12 meters and Reagan Schwartz placed 11th with a mark of 10.88 meters. Schwartz's jump marked a personal record across the freshman's first three meets of her career.
  • Nya Browne competed admirably in the 60-meter hurdles, placing second in Heat 1 with a time of 8.77 and placing fifth overall in the finals at 8.85.
  • Jade Pope led Temple in the 400m, placing seventh with a time of 57.93. Lauren Greig placed 19th with a tie of 1:00.63.
  • Elsa Chan set an indoor personal record in the 3,000 meters, finishing with a time of 10:04.52 for eighth place.
  • In the high jump, Nicole Castor placed 10th overall with a height of 1.65 meters — the mark ties her indoor personal record. Amira Green was right behind in 11th, tallying a 1.60-meter jump.
  • Madison Trout finished with a time of 25.59 in the 200 meters, placing 17th.
  • In the 600, Chidumga Nkulume finished at 1:40.31 (19th) and Laila Cottom clocked in at 1:43.57 (28th).
  • Dominyka Petraskaite (5:19.58/28th) and Molly Demarzo (5:27.93/35th) raced for the Owls in the mile.
  • Trout (8.05), Browne (8.09), and Metzger (8.11) competed in the 60-meter sprint.

Up next

Temple will hit the road next week to compete in the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York, on Jan. 20.
