Track & Field heads to New York for Villanova Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Temple track & field program is set to continue its indoor season at the Villanova Invitational this Saturday. The meet will take place at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York, with the start time set for 4 p.m.

Last time out

  • The Owls competed a week ago at the Nittany Lion Challenge in State College, Pennsylvania, taking home 10 top-10 placements against a field of 17 total schools competing. Temple tallied three indoor personal records and three podium finishes.
  • In the pole vault, Alie Riches tied for first place overall with a mark of 3.63 meters. The Nittany Lion Challenge marked the third consecutive podium finish for Riches to start off the indoor season.
  • In the long jump, earned her way onto the podium as she tied for third with a jump of 5.67 meters.
  • Obiamaka Igwenagu led the way for Temple in the triple jump, placing third with a mark of 12.22 meters.
  • In the 3,000 meters, Elsa Chan set a new personal record with a time of 10:04.52. Nicole Castor tied a personal record in high jump, clearing 1.65 meters. Reagan Schwartz set a new milestone in the triple jump, recording a jump of 10.88 meters.

Previewing the Owls

  • Riches will lead the way for the Owls in the pole vault, along with Cierra Crane and Aliza White Vega. In high jump, Temple's competitors will be Castor, Amira Green, and Fiona Carter. Shell and Igwenagu will be joined by Allyson Metzger in the long jump, while Schwartz will be the lone triple jump entry at this weekend's meet.
  • In the sprints, Temple's 60-meter competitors will be Metzger, Igwenagu, and Shell. Carter and Nya Browne will race in the 60-meter hurdles for the Owls. The Cherry & White will be represented by Browne, Carter, and Jade Pope in the 200 meters.
  • Temple will race three athletes in the 400 meters: Pope, Chidumga Nkulume, and Lauren Greig. Laila Cottom will represent the Owls in the 500 meters.
  • The Owls will send six athletes to compete in the distance events. Emma-Kate Watt, Dominyka Petraskaite, and Molly Demarzo will race in the one mile. Petraskaite will double up in the 3,000 meters, alongside Chan and Jillian Wolk.
  • Temple will round out the event in the 4x400 meter relay, which will consist of Cottom, Greig, Nkulume, Pope, and Petraskaite.

Next up

The Owls will travel back to New York for the second of three straight weekends in The Big Apple. Temple will compete at the Dr. Sanders Invitational at the N.Y. Armory on Jan. 26.
