Fencing Completes Sunday's Penn State Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Temple fencers competed in the Penn State Invitational on Sunday, picking up wins against Haverford and North Carolina, combining for a 41-11 record. In other matchups during the afternoon event, the Owls fell to Columbia, Yale, and Penn State.

The Temple fencing team will return home to the Temple Pavillion on Friday, Jan. 17 to host day one of Philadelphia Invitational. Just two days later, the Owls will conclude the two-day event at Penn.
MEET SUMMARY
- To start the meet off, Temple defeated Haverford by large margin of 24-3.
- The Owls continued the meet falling to Columbia, 17-10, followed by a loss to Yale 14-13. In the afternoon session, the Cherry and White returned to the win column with a 17-8 victory over North Carolina. To end the day Temple ended the day with a 17-10 loss to the Nittany Lions.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Anna Novoseltseva led the all foilists on Sunday with six wins, going 6-4. Elizabeth Novoseltseva (4-5) and Renee Oymann (4-3) added four wins each on the afternoon.
- Epeeist Margherita Calederaro led her squad with a 6-5 record. Fellow epeeist Grace Smith (6-7) also added six wins on the day. Senior Sara Proctor earned a winning record on the afternoon, going 4-3.
- In sabre, Alexandra Weinberg led the parliament with a 7-4 record. Other standouts included Arwen Gormley who put in an excellent performance, going 6-1 on the day. Lauren Johnson had a strong showing scoring a 5-2 record.
