Gymnastics Records Program Top-10 Team Score Against Towson

PHILADELPHIA –Temple University women's gymnastics posted the eighth best team score in program history as the Owls opened EAGL competition with a 195.900-195.325 win against Towson on Sunday night, claiming three event victories along the way.

ROTATION-BY-ROTATION
Leding off the event, Temple started on vault for the first rotation and took a quick lead, earning four of the top five spots. Leading the way was Ruskey with her 9.850. Three more scores of 9.800 and higher helped the Owls to score 49.075, besting the mark of 48.875 Towson put up on the uneven bars.
The teams flipped events for the second rotation. Boosting Temple's chances were a pair of 9.825 scores from Johnson and Whalen. It was a career-high for Johnson by nearly a tenth of a point and a season-best for Whalen as the Owls maintained the lead halfway through the meet.
TU moved to the beam for the third rotation. Temple started well on the event with Schugman posting a 9.825, followed by an equal score from Ruskey and a career-best 9.625 from Aresta, topping per previous high by more than three-tenths. The Owls made it four-for-four on the beam as Madison Dorunda scored Temple's third 9.825 on the event. Closing the rotation, Donabedian delivered a season-high 9.875 as TU scored 48.975 on the event, increasing its lead to .200.
The Owls rounded out the meet on floor and did not disappoint, finishing 1-2-3. In addition to Donabedian's 9.875, Stallings posted a 9.850 and Payton Monk tied a personal best with a 9.850 as well. All competitors for Temple on floor had a 9.800 or higher.
UP NEXT
The Owls return to action on Friday, February 2 when they travel to Alabama for the Auburn Quad Meet. In addition to facing the host Tigers, Fisk and Talladega will compete at the event. The meet is scheduled for a 8:00 p.m. EST start.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Owls turned in season-high scores as a team with a 49.075 on vault, 48.675 on bars and a 48.975 on beam. They tied a season-best with a 49.175 on floor.
- Brooke Donabedian won a pair of events on the day. She earned the top score on beam with a 9.875, a season-high. The senior followed that and closed the meet with a 9.875 on floor.
- Summer Ruskey turned in a first place finish and career-best performance on the vault, scoring a 9.850.
- Mackenzie Aresta tied a personal high with a 9.825 on the vault. Hannah Stallings and Renee Schugman each posted a 9.800, good for a season-high for both.
- Emily Johnson and Cyrena Whalen finished in a tie for second on the bars, each recording a 9.825.
- Temple opened up the home schedule with a 195.900, marking the highest home opener score in school history, highest January score in program history, and the third-highest home score ever in program history.
