Crane and Shell highlight strong showing for Owls at Dr. Sander Invitational

NEW YORK CITY — The Temple track & field program competed at the Dr. Sander Invitational at The Armory in New York City this weekend. The Owls put together a strong team showing, highlighted by Cierra Crane and Inara Shell moving their way up the program record books.
Crane's performance in the pole vault ranks her as the second-best indoor pole vaulter in program history, while Shell's score in the triple jump also moved her into second place in Temple's record book in her respective event. The Cherry & White saw a combined four personal records and three top-10 placements against a competitive field.
Results
- On Friday night, Crane and Aliza White Vega put on a show for Temple in the pole vault. Crane's leap of 3.75 meters (12-03.5) moved her into second place in the Owls' record book for individuals with the highest indoor marks in the event, behind teammate Allie Riches. Crane placed sixth in the event and the score is an indoor personal record, which moved her into 6th place in the American Athletic Conference this indoor season. White Vega cleared 3.45 meters (11-03.75) in the event, placing 17th.
- Shell cleared 12.58 meters (41-03.25) in triple jump on Saturday, marking a new personal record and moving her behind Tannekee Strachan in the indoor record book for top triple jumpers in Temple program history. Shell placed fifth in the event and her jump is currently ranked second in the AAC. Obiamaka Igwenagu jumped 11.77 meters (38-07.5), placing 12th.
- Amira Green kept up her momentum in the high jump this season, placing fifth in the event at 1.70 meters (5-07.0). Nicole Castor placed 13th, clearing 1.60 meters (5-03.0).
- Shell and Igwenagu put together strong performances in the long jump as well, with Shell placing 11th at 5.51 meters (18-01.0) and Igwenagu taking 15th at 5.47 meters (17-11.5).
- In the 400 meters, Jade Pope led the way for Temple with an 11th-place finish at a time of 57.53. Chidumga Nkulume placed 22nd out of 48 runners at 58.58 and Lauren Greig placed 27th with a time of 58.89. Pope (25.41/23rd), Nkulume (25.99/51st), and Greig (26.11/54th) doubled up in a competitive field of 81 competitors in the 200 meters. Laila Cottom ran a 1:00.6 in the 400 meters and Nya Browne clocked in at 25.56 in the 200 meters to set a new personal record.
- Brown led the way for Temple in the 60 meters, one of her three events of the weekend — she recorded a time of 7.96. Allyson Metzger set a personal record, clocking a time of 8.03 and Madison Trout was a hair behind, recording a time of 8.04. In the 60-meter hurdles, Browne finished with a time of 8.85.
- In the distance events, Dominyka Petraskaite came in at a time of 2:17.49. Emma-Kate Watt finished at 10:57.47 in the 3,000 meters.

Next week, Temple will once again travel to New York for its third consecutive race in the Big Apple. The Owls will compete at the Scarlet Knight Invitational at The Armory in New York on Feb. 3.
