WR Dante Wright didn't miss a beat after sitting out the previous two games due to injury, leading the Cherry and White with 14 receptions and 150 all-purpose yards. Defensively, LB D.J. Woodbury, Sr. led Temple with eight solo tackles in the win.
How it Happened
- Temple started the scoring on the opening drive of the game, with Trujillo nailing a 54-yard FG to give the Cherry and White a 3-0 lead with 11:52 left in the first quarter.
- Florida Atlantic took a 7-3 lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown from RB CJ Campbell Jr. with 11:53 remaining in the first half.
- Temple cut into FAU's advantage with another FG from Trujillo. The 50-yard conversion made the score 7-6 Florida Atlantic with 4:26 left in the third quarter.
- Temple took the lead for the first time RB Terrez Worthy ran the ball in from one yard out. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed, keeping the score at 12-7 with 7:17 to play.
- FAU tied the game late in the fourth quarter as Campbell Jr. scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from 1 yard out. The two-point conversion was successful, knotting the game up at 15 and forcing overtime.
- In overtime, Temple's defense forced a FG try after back-to-back sacks from LB Tyquan King and DE Diwun Black. The kick was no good, giving the ball to Temple only needing a FG to win. Trujillo provided just that, knocking in a 39-yarder to give Temple the overtime victory.
Statistically Speaking
- With his successful 54-yard FG on the opening drive, Trujillo is now the only FBS kicker with four successful FGs of 54-yards-or-more, including the FBS's two longest FGs of 60 and 64 yards.
- Trujillo's 50-yard FG in the third quarter marked the fifth time this season the kicker converted on a 50+ yard FG.
- Dante Wright eclipsed the 100 receiving-yard threshold for the third time this season, including other games with 99 and 98 yards, respectively.
Notes
- D.J. Woodbury, Sr., Elijah Deravil, Latrell Jean and Evan Simon served as game captains.
- With 14 catches, Wright now has 56 for the season and 95 as a Temple Owl. That places him seventh on the single-season list and tied for 18st on the all-time list.
- Wright set a career-high with 14 receptions and his 143 receiving yards was just seven yards shy of tying a career high. His 14 receptions in a game ranks second in program history (since 1971), surpassing Jose Barbon and Jadan Blues' 13 receptions in a single contest. Wright fell one reception short of Clint Graves' 15 catches against Rhode Island in 1972.
- Today's win was Temple's first overtime game at Lincoln Financial Field since 2018 against Cincinnati, when the Owls defeated the Bearcats 24-17.
- It's also the lowest Temple points scored in a win since 2019 against USF, which saw a 17-7 final. At home, it's the lowest point total in a winning effort since 2017 when the Owls bested Villanova 16-13.
- The last time Temple kicked a walk-off FG came in 2012 against UConn. Brandon McManus split the uprights on a 29-yard try, giving the Cherry and White a 17-14 win in East Hartford.
- Temple now has two conference wins this year, defeating Tulsa and Florida Atlantic. This is the first time the Owls have multiple wins within American Athletic Conference play since 2019, a season where Temple won five games in conference.
