Opening Tip
After winning the Big 5 Championship with a 76-62 victory over Villanova, the Temple Owls look to take on No. 15 West Virginia at the Liacouras Center.
News & Notes
• Tiarra East led the Owls in scoring against Villanova with 26 points, her third 20+ point game this season.
•  Temple's defense held Villanova to 3-of-20 shooting from behind the 3-point line, marking the second time this season the Owls have limited an opponent to just three made threes. They previously held Drexel to 3-of-19 shooting on November 23.
• The Owls outrebounded the Wildcats 34-26, and Temple holds a 4-1 record when outrebounding opponents.Â
• Kaylah Turner's 10 points against the Wildcats marked her third straight game with double-digit points.
• The Owls will travel to Berkeley, Calif., to face Xavier in the Raising The B.A.R. Invitational on December 21-22.
Scouting the Mountaineers
• The Mountaineers are coming off an 85-40 victory against East Tennessee State on December 6 in Morgantown.
• West Virginia's only loss this season came to No. 5 Texas, where the Mountaineers fell 78-73 at the Gulf Coast Showcase.
• The Mountaineers will face their first road test of the season, as this will be their first road game.
• JJ Quinerly is averaging 18.6 points, 3 steals, 3.3 assists, and 3 rebounds per game while also serving as WVU's leading scorer. Jordan Harrison (15.2 points and 5.2 assists) and Sydney Shaw (13.2 points and 3 rebounds) are also averaging double-digit points for West Virginia.
• Against ESTU, WVU scored 44 points in the paint, compared to ESTU's 12 points in the paint.
• WVU caused 29 turnovers against ESTU, leading to 37 points off turnovers for the Mountaineers.
• WVU finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 25-8, including a 12-6 conference record. The Mountaineers were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by No. 2 Iowa.
T-Mac Moves Up All-Time Three-Point Leaderboard
• Fifth-year Tarriyonna Gary, nicknamed "T-Mac," has been a sharpshooter since she arrived at Temple just over two years ago.
• Gary has led the team in three-point field goals made in each of the last two seasons.
• Gary recently moved up to 7th in Temple history with 138 three-pointers made, surpassing Marissa Mackins (2018-20) and Clauderna Harold (1994-97). Gary has solidified her place among the top players in the program's history. She also ranks 4th in Temple history with a 37.0% three-point shooting percentage.
The Race to 1000
•  Tiarra East has scored 978 points in her career at Temple and is just 22 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
• Tarriyonna Gary has scored a total of 966 points in her collegiate career, leaving her just 34 points shy of reaching 1,000. Of those 966 points, 619 have been earned during her time at Temple.
The Owls Heating Up
• The Owls went 6-12 behind the 3-point line, shooting 50%, their highest percentage of the season.
• Temple shot 29-52 from the floor against Villanova, recording a season-high 55.8%. The last time the Owls shot at least 50% from the floor was against UAB on February 14, 2024, when they went 34-65 (52.3%).
•  In the third quarter vs. Villanova, the Owls shot 71.4% from the floor on 10-14 shooting, and in the fourth quarter, they shot 61.5% on 8-13.
Welcome to College
• Felicia Jacobs recorded her first collegiate points on November 23, 2024, with a buzzer-beating layup that trimmed the deficit to five in her team's comeback victory over Drexel. The London native has appeared in four games, averaging two rebounds and 10 minutes of play per game.
• Freshmen Savannah Curry and Adena Webster made an impact on Tuesday evening. Curry scored her first collegiate points on November 19, 2024, against Georgetown, finishing the game with 12 points (5-8 from the field), five rebounds, and one steal.
• Curry was a state champion locally at Westtown School and scored more than 1,000 points in her high school career.
• Adena Webster scored her first collegiate points on November 19, 2024, against Georgetown, after drawing contact and going to the line, making one of two free throws.
•  Webster averaged 34.4 points per game at Archbishop Carroll in Miami as a junior and was an All-Dade County honoree after starring at the junior level in her native Bahamas.
•  They are three of the seven newcomers Temple welcomed to the 2024-25 season.
