No. 9 Owls’ Fencing Goes 4-1 at Tar Heel Duals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 9 Temple fencers had an impressive Tar Heel Duals on Saturday where they went 4-1 overall and 90-45 individually. Temple knocked off Boston College, LIU, No. 15 New York, and North Carolina.

MEET SUMMARY
- The Owls began the day by falling to No. 8 Northwestern, 18-9, but then rattled off four straight victories against Boston College (15-12), LIU (23-4), NYU (23-4), and UNC (20-7).
- Temple's individual records totaled 90-45 with the foil squad with a 33-12 record and sabre with a 32-12 record, while epee ends the day going 25-20.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Foilist Constanca Dimas led her team with nine wins on Saturday, going 9-1, while Natalie Adams-Kim (6-1) and Anastasia Yankovskiy (6-3) followed with six apiece. Gretl Merges and Anna Novoseltseva also had outstanding days adding four wins each. Against LIU the foil threesome of Dimas, Adams-Kim, and Merges went 3-0 as they helped the Owls to the 9-0 victory. In the last matchup of the day against the Tar Heels, TU was perfect once again with Dimas (3-0), Anna Novoseltseva (2-0), Elizabeth Novoseltseva (2-0), and Yankovskiy (1-0) earning clean sheets.
- Grace Smith led epee on Saturday with a 6-1 record, including a pair of wins against Boston College, No. 15 NYU, and UNC. On her birthday, Cindy Long went 5-2, including a 3-0 record against NYU.
- Each of the five sabreists who saw action Saturday earned at least five wins apiece. Led by the trio of Alex Weinberg, Eva Ventura, and Lauren Johnson with seven wins each, Diana Tiburcio followed with six wins. Graduate student Zoe Turner added five wins to round out the sabre squad.
