Temple earns event wins on bars, beam, and vault

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple gymnastics team picked up the Ken Anderson Invitational meet victory with a pair of event wins from senior Brooke Donabedian and one from junior Sarah Stallings on Friday night as it scored its second-highest team score of the season with a 194.875. The Owls defeated Southern Connecticut State (192.375), Bridgeport (191.875), and Ursinus (189.625).  

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls held the lead throughout all four rotations on Friday night.
  • For the second straight meet, junior Sarah Stallings earned a tie for the victory on the uneven bars and senior Brooke Donabedian earned victories on the beam and floor.
  • Bridgeport's Lola Sepulveda earned the win in the all-around with a 38.700.
  • Hannah Zebdi and Lexi Bracher of SCSU tied for the win on vault scoring a pair of 9.875s.
ROTATION 1 (VAULT – 48.425)
  • Freshman Hannah Weklar and senior Mackenzie Aresta were the lone Owls to score in the 9.7 range in rotation one.
  • Aresta earned a 9.775, the highest on the TU squad and her fifth score of 9.7 or better this season.
  • With a 9.7, Weklar earned her third straight 9.7 or better score this season.
ROTATION 2 (BARS – 48.880)
  • The Owls scored a season-high 48.800 in rotation two on the bars, with five of the six Owls' gymnasts scoring 9.7 or better.
  • The junior Stallings led the way with a 9.850 for the second consecutive week and fourth bars win this season. Stallings now has put together five 9.8 scores or better in 2024.
  • Sophomores Reese DeHaan and Angelina Hogan and senior Cyrena Whalen scored 9.750,
  • Highlands Ranch, Colo. native Emily Johnson also scored a 9.700, her fifth straight mark of 9.7 or better.
ROTATION 3 (BEAM – 48.600)
  • Three Owls scored a 9.700 or better on the beam in the third rotation.
  • Like Stallings on bars, Donabedian earned a beam victory for the second straight week, tying for her season-high of 9.875.
  • Stallings recorded a 9.7 score, while junior Madison Dorunda added a 9.775.
ROTATION 4 (FLOOR – 49.075)
  • It was the second time this season Temple earned a 49-plus score on floor. With its 49.075, the Owls earned their second-highest score of this season.
  • Just like she did a week ago at Penn, the Maple Valley, Wash. native Donabedian earned a 9.900, her third this season, and fourth floor win in 2024.
  • Dorunda got the Cherry and White rolling as she led off with a 9.725. Junior Hannah Stallings (9.725) added her fifth straight score of 9.725 or better and her third straight overall.
  • Junior Summer Ruskey and freshman Payton Monk increased the TU average on floor with a pair of 9.8s. In position fourth, Ruskey earned a 9.825, while Monk followed with a season-high 9.875. Both Monk and Ruskey finished in second and third place, respectively, behind their teammate Donabedian.

  • The Temple gymnasts will return action on Friday, Feb. 23 at they travel to Towson, Md. for the Towson Meet.
