Women’s Track & Field to Compete at AAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Temple Women's Track & Field program is set to compete at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The two-day event is set to begin on Friday, February 23 and will conclude at the end of the day Saturday. Temple is one of 14 AAC teams competing in the women's indoor championships. The championships will air on ESPN+ with Hayden Cox, Trevor Fulkerson, and Breanna Sorensen on the call.
Previewing the Owls
The following Temple athletes are set to compete at the AAC Championships:
Fiona Carter (Pentathlon), Inara Shell (Long/Triple Jump), Obiamaka Igwenagu (Long/Triple Jump), Allie Riches (Pole Vault), Cierra Crane (Pole Vault), Aliza White Vega (Pole Vault), Reece Sullivan (Pole Vault), Amira Green (Pole Vault), Nicole Castor (Pole Vault), Chidumga Nkulume (400m), Jade Pope (400m), Nya Browne (60mH/200m), Allyson Metzger (60m/200m), Dominyka Petraskaite (800m/DMR), and Elsa Chan (5,000m/3,000m), Emma-Kate Watt (DMR), and Laila Cottom (DMR).
The Owls will compete in the Distance Medley and 4x400 meter relays.
Where the Owls rank
- The Cherry & White will be looking for a strong showing from its pole vault group. Senior Allie Riches (4.10m/15-05.5) ranks third in the conference in the event. Senior Cierra Crane (3.75m/12-03.5) ranks 11th and Aliza White Vega (3.65m/11-11.5) is ranked 13th.
- Sophomore Elsa Chan enters the championships with the second-fastest 5,000-meter time (17:03.43) in the conference.
- In the high jump, junior Amira Green enters the AAC championships with the fifth-best mark (1.75m/5-09) in the conference. Nicole Castor (1.65m/5-05) ranks 13th in the event coming into the championships.
- Inara Shell enters the AAC Championships ranked highly in both the triple and long jump. Shell is ranked third in the triple jump (12.58m/41-03) and 10th in the long jump (5.89m/19-04). Obiamaka Igwenagu enters the championships ranked fifth in the triple jump at 12.35 meters (40-06).
