PHILADELPHIA – On Sunday inside McGonigle Hall, the No. 9 Temple fencing team closed out its regular season with the Temple Invitational, going 1-4 against four ranked teams. Graduate student Margherita Calderaro highlighted the Owls afternoon by picking up her 200th-career victory.

MEET SUMMARY
  • Calderaro led all Owls' fencers with eight victories, while freshman Lauren Johnson and junior Eva Ventura followed with seven wins.
  • Temple started the day with falling to No. 4 Princeton, but turned around in round two with a 16-11 win versus No. 11 St. John's. To end the day, the Cherry and White stumbled in its last three matches by three points or less. Starting with No. 6 Penn, the Owls fell to its cross-town rival 15-12, and then lost No. 12 Penn State, 14-13, in another Pennsylvania rivalry. In the meet finale, Temple came up short against No. 1 (DIII) Johns Hopkins, 15-12.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • The epeeist Caldero had two victories in three of the five matches on the afternoon.
