No. 9 Temple Fencing Goes Undefeated on Final Day of Northwestern Duals; Defeats No. 13 Ohio State

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 9 Temple Owls' fencers finished up the Northwestern Duals on Sunday by going undefeated (5-0), with wins over Detroit Mercy, Wayne State, Air Force, Incarnate Word, and No. 13 Ohio State.

MEET SUMMARY
- It was the second straight day Temple knocked off one of the top 15 teams in the USFCA Mid-Season rankings.
- The Owls began the day blanking Detroit Mercy 27-0, followed up by an 18-9 victory of Wayne State, and then a 17-10 victory of Air Force before the lunch period. After the break, the Cherry and White continued to its momentum with a 19-8 win against Incarnate Word. Temple concluded the final day with a defeat of No. 13 Ohio State.
- Temple went a combined 81-39 on Sunday with the sabre squad going an impressive 39-6. The epeeists tallied a 22-17 mark and the foil team recorded a 20-16 record.
- Of the 39 wins on the day, sabreist Eva Ventura had a terrific afternoon with her weapon leading with an 11-1 record. Highlighting her afternoon was the 3-0 clean sheet against the Buckeyes during the final round. Senior Diana Tiburcio went 9-2, graduate student Zoe Turner went 8-1, freshman Lauren Johnson went undefeated at 6-0 record and senior Alexandra Weinberg added a 5-2 record.
- Margherita Calderaro, Anne-Mai Melles, and Sara Proctor combined for 15 wins in epee. Each epeeist tallied five wins apiece with sophomore Melles leading with a 5-2 mark. Both Calderaro and Proctor earned 5-4 records on the afternoon, picking up two wins each to help Temple over Ohio State.
- With the foil team earning a forfeit victory in round one versus Detroit Mercy, both Anastasia Yankovskiy and Anna Novoseltseva earned five wins each over the final five rounds during the final day.
