Donabedian Wins Two Event Championships on Friday at Penn Dual Meet

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Brooke Donabedian and junior Sarah Stallings put together terrific performances during Friday's dual meet at Penn where they won three event titles (bars, beam, floor). Donabedan earned wins on the beam and floor, while Stallings tied for first place on bars, but it wasn't enough as Penn earned the victory with a 195.075 to the Owls' 194.075.

The Temple gymnasts will return to McGonigle Hall on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m., for the Cause Meet. Fans will have a chance to meet their favorite Owls for a post meet autograph session on the concourse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls totaled eight scores of 9.8 or better during Friday's meet.
- It's the second time this season that Temple has earned three event titles.
- Penn led through all four rotations, but the Owls cut the lead after rotation two to .325, the closest they would get . The Quakers held on to win by one point for the victory.
ROTATION 1 (BARS – 47.850)
- The trio of junior Sarah Stallings, sophomore Emily Johnson and senior Cyrena Whalen finished in the top three places on bars.
- For Stallings she tied for the win, her third win on the bars this season. The Raleigh, N.C. junior scored a 9.850, her fourth score of 9.8 or better in six meets.
- Both Johnson and Whalen tied for third place. Both Owls' gymnasts have put together a 9.775. It was Johnson's four score in the 9.7 range, while Whalen has put together her third in a row of such scores.
ROTATION 2 (VAULT – 48.650)
- The Owls pulled within .350 of the Quakers for lead after rotation two.
- Both senior Mackenzie Aresta and freshman Hannah Weklar tied for second place as the duo scored 9.8. For Weklar, it's a career-high score on vault, while Aresta picked up her second score of 9.8 or better this season.
- Freshman Amelia Budd and juniors Summer Ruskey earned respectable scores on the apparatus with a 9.775 and 9.7, respectively.
ROTATION 3 (FLOOR – 48.825)
- The Owls outscored Penn in the third rotation as they scored 48.825 to 48.600 for the Quakers.
- Donabedian's 9.9 winning score was the third win of the season and eighth of her career.
- Including Donabedian, each of the last four Owls on floor scored a 9.7 or better.
ROTATION 4 (BEAM – 48.750)
- Temple closed out Friday's meet with a 48.750 on beam but was unable to chase down Penn who sealed the victory with a 49.200 on floor.
- Brooke Donabedian's 9.825 led the meet as she picked up her second event win on the night and second on beam this season.
- Junior Madison Dorunda and senior Schugman secured a pair of 9.8s. It was Schugman's fourth straight score of 9.8 or better.
- Freshman Payton Monk was inserted to the beam lineup for the first time this season. The Hanover Township, Pa. native picked up a 9.7 score.
