Women’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Track Season at USF Invite

TAMPLA, Fla. — The Temple Women's Track & Field program is set to begin its 2024 outdoor track season at the USF Invite in Tampa, Florida on March 14-15.
The two-day event features 20 competing schools and marks the opening meet of Temple's outdoor season. The invite will air on ESPN+, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Last Time Out
- Temple is coming off the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, where the team placed 12th in team scoring. Five athletes scored points for the Cherry & White by placing in the top eight of their respective events.
- Inara Shell led the way, placing second in the triple jump with a near-program best mark of 12.74 meters (41-09.75). Her placement is the highest ever by an Owl since Temple joined the AAC. She also placed 13th in the long jump at 5.74 meters (18-10.0)
- Obiamaka Ogwenagu placed fifth in the triple jump, leaping 12.54 meters (41-01.75).
- In the high jump, Amira Green placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.69 meters (5-06.5).
- In the 5,000 meters, Elsa Chan ran a 16:53.62. The time is the third fastest indoor mark in Temple's indoor record book.
- In pole vault, three athletes jumped 3.83 meters (12-06.75): Allie Riches (5th), Aliza White Vega (7th) and Cierra Crane (10th). The marks are personal records for White Vega and Crane.
Previewing the Owls
- Temple will showcase 17 athletes, across 11 events.
- In the sprints, Nya Browne and Allyson Metzger will double up in the 100- and 200-meter events. Lauren Greig and Jade Pope will race in the 200 meters as well. Browne will round out her efforts in the 100-meter hurdles.
- In the 400 meters, Pope, Bay, and Laila Cottom will compete for Temple. Cotton will also race in the 800 meters, alongside Emma-Kate Watt and Dominyka Petraskaite.
- In the distance events, Elsa Chan will race in the 1,500 meters and 2,000-meter steeplechase. Emma-Kate Watt will also represent Temple in the 1,500.
- Temple will see four pole vaulters open their outdoor season: Allie Riches, Cierra Crane, Aliza White Vega, and Reece Sullivan.
- In the long and triple jumps, the Owls will be represented by Inara Shell, Obiamaka Igwenagu, and Reagan Schwartz.
