Gymnastics Scores Third Highest Team Score of Season To Close Out EAGL Championships

Temple scores its eighth 49 of the season on floor

TOWSON, Md. – The Temple gymnastics team finished in fourth place at the 2024 EAGL Championships on Saturday at the Towson Arena, scoring a 195.600, their third-high mark of the season, while picking up 14 All-EAGL Tournament Team selections.

HOW IT HAPPENED Rotation 2 (Bars – 48.750)
  • Cyrena Whalen and Sarah Stallings picked up Second Team All-EAGL honors after finishing in the top 10 with back-to-back 9.825s
  • Stallings ended the EAGLs with her eighth straight 9.8 or better, while Whalen earned her fifth overall 9.8 or better in 2024
  • Also picking up a second-team plaudit was sophomore Reese DeHaan after scoring a career-high 9.775.
Rotation 3 (Beam – 48.900)
  • Senior Brooke Donabedian, and juniors Madison Dorunda and Summer Ruskey led the Owls on the beam in rotation three, leading to second-team selections.
  • Dorunda led the squad with a 9.825, finishing in 10th place, while Donabedian and Ruskey added 9.800s for a tie of 14th place overall.
  • Donabedian picked up her seventh 9.8 or better in 13 meets this season, while Dorunda adds her sixth, and Ruskey adds her third of the year.
Rotation 4 (Floor – 49.050)
  • Temple's floor score was the third highest of the meet behind Towson and New Hampshire.
  • Led by First Team All-EAGL Tournament selections, Brooke Donabedian and Renee Schugman and second-teamers Ruskey and freshman Payton Monk, all four gymnasts scored a 9.8 or better.
  • Donabedian and Schugman matched the other with 9.850s, while Monk and Ruskey scored 9.800s.
Rotation 5 (Vault – 48.900)
  • All six of the Owls' vaulters scored 9.7 or higher in the final rotation.
  • Senior Mackenzie Aresta closed out her final vault routine of her career with a 9.850, tying her career high, good enough for a EAGL All-Tournament Team First-Team plaudit.
  • Freshman Hannah Weklar recorded a 9.800 score, earning a second-team selection with a 12th place finish. Ruskey also added her third tournament award, also with a second-team selection as she tied for 15th place with a 9.775
