Riley, Picarelli Named CSC Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Jordan Riley and Matteo Picarelli of the Temple University men's basketball team have been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District as announced by the organization on Tuesday. The award recognizes top student-athletes for their work, both on the court and in the classroom.Â
The pair are the first Temple men's basketball players to receive the honor since T.J. DiLeo in the 2012-13 season. Both also were selected for inclusion on the Academic All-America ballot.
Riley averaged 11.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 33 contests for the Owls, making 29 starts. He scored in double figures 21 times and had four games with 20 or more points. He recorded four double-doubles on the season, including back-to-back efforts in the AAC tournament, helping Temple reach the finals.Â
In the classroom, the Brentwood, N.Y. native has a 3.71 GPA as an advertising major.Â
Picarelli was 11th in the AAC in three-point percentage at 36.8 percent and knocked down 63 triples on the year. He averaged 7.0 points per game for Temple and had 10 games with 10 or more points. He tied a career-best with six treys against South Florida on January 24.Â
The senior from Milan, Italy has a 4.0 GPA as a business administration major.Â
To be eligible for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above. They must have played in 90 percent or started 67 percent of team games.
