Gymnastics’ Floor Team Earns Sixth 49 of Season During Thursday Quad

Temple adds eight scores of 9.8 or better during meet
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple gymnastics team finished with its sixth 49 of the season on floor, on its way to a third place finish in Thursday's matinee home quad. The Owls scored a 195.450 behind first-place Maryland that scored a 197.050 and second-place NC State with a 196.750, but ahead of cross-town rival Penn with a 194.275.

- No. 36 Maryland took control of the meet after rotation two on its way to earning event wins from Natalie Martin on beam with a 9.950, Alexa Rothenbuescher tying for first with 9.900 on the floor exercise, and Emma Silberman in the all-around, scoring a 39.075.
- No. 21 NC State also earned got a pair of event wins from Ashley Knight on vault with a 9.925 and a 9.950 from Alexis Ortega on bars with a 9.950.
- Temple's Sarah Stallings tied a career-best 9.900 on bars to take a share of third place.
- All six Cherry and White floor team members went onto score a 9.750 or higher for a 49.100 in rotation four.
ROTATION 1 (VAULT – 48.500)
- First-year gymnast Amelia Budd started off with a 9.750, her eighth score in nine outings, seventh straight with a 9.70 or better.
- Fellow first-year gymnast Hannah Weklar scored a 9.700, her fifth straight 9.7 or better.
- Senior Renee Schugman also earned a 9.700, her seventh score of 9.7 or better in 2024.
ROTATION 2 (BARS – 48.950)
- With Stallings putting together a career-best routine on bars, Temple scored a season-high on the bars with 48.950, the second time in three weeks the team achieved that score.
- Stallings' 9.900 is her fifth score of 9.8 or better, and eighth overall.
- Sophomore Emily Johnson tied her career-high on the bars with a 9.825 from the Towson Dual meet on January 21 and the second time this season she would achieve that number.
ROTATION 3 (BEAM – 48.900)
- Schugman, juniors Stallings and Madison Dorunda led Temple with scores above a 9.8 in rotation three.
- The Smithtown, N.Y. native Schugman led the Owls with a season-high 9.850, while Stallings put in a career-best performance with a 9.825 and Dorunda earned her third straight 9.8 or better, also with a 9.825, fifth overall this season.
ROTATION 4 (FLOOR – 49.100)
- In the second slot, Weklar made her debut on floor with a 9.775. Dorunda and Schugman sandwiched the freshman with a pair of 9.750s.
- The Owls closed out the meet with three straight 9.8s. Starting with Summer Ruskey, the Taneytown, Md. native tied her season-high with a 9.850.
- Coming off a career-best performance at NC State, freshman Payton Monk secured a 9.850 from the judges. Senior Brooke Donabedian capped Temple's night with a 9.875, her eighth 9.8 or better this season.
UP NEXT
- Temple returns to the action on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for Senior Day inside McGonigle Hall. Visiting North Broad Street will be the LIU Sharks, West Chester Golden Rams, and William and Mary Indians.
