Gymnastics’ Floor Team Sets School Record On Senior Day

Owls Scored 196.225, the fifth highest in program history
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple floor team made program history on Sunday afternoon during their Senior Day quad meet as it scored a school-record 49.575, helping the Owls' to their first 196-plus score of the season. Temple tallied a 196.225, followed by William and Mary with a 194.925, Long Island University with a 194.700, and West Chester at a 193.800.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Temple returns to the action next Sunday as it travels to Durham, N.H. to compete in the final regular season meet before turning it sights to the EAGL Championships at Towson on March 23. at 2:30 p.m. The New Hampshire Quad Meet will begin at 2 p.m. on March 17.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 49.575 floor score is the best in school history, breaking the mark set on Feb. 19, 2023 at home when the floor squad scored a 49.400.
- The Owls held the meet lead from start to finish with the help of 11 scores of 9.8 or better.
- Temple's team total of 196.225 is highest scoring output since March 12, 2023 at Maryland.
- The 196.225 is the fifth-highest team total in school history.
- The Owls got individual event wins on bars and floor, coming by the way of three-way ties.
- Junior Summer Ruskey led Temple in the first rotation with a 9.825, tying with Syd Morris of LIU for second place. It was the Tanytown, Md. native's third 9.8 or better this season.
- Senior Renee Schugman also earned a top-five finish with a 9.800, her third 9.8 or better this season.
- Freshman Amelia Budd and senior Mackenzie Aresta tied for sixth with a 9.775, while fellow freshman tied for eighth place with a 9.750.
- Combining for a first-place tie on bars, freshman Hannah Weklar, junior Sarah Stallings, and senior Cyrena Whalen helped the Owls to a tie for the fifth-best score in school history.
- While Weklar picked up her first event win, the Guilderland, N.Y native scored a career-best 9.850.
- Sophomore Angelina Hogan also set a new career-best on bars as she scored a 9.775, breaking her previous best of 9.725.
- Juniors Madison Dorunda and Ruskey, and senior Brooke Donabedian earned top-10 finishes on beam with all three scoring in the 9.7-range.
- Ruskey led the Owls in rotation three with a 9.775, her third 9.7 or higher in 2024.
- With a 9.750, fellow junior Madison Dorunda earned her seventh score of 9.7 or higher this season.
- It marks the ninth time in 11 meets that Donabedian scored at least a 9.7.
- All six Temple participants on floor earned at least a 9.8, including career-highs from Dorunda, Weklar, Ruskey, and Monk.
- Dorunda started off the rotation with a career-best, 9.900, followed by Weklar's career-best 9.875. Schugman followed with a season-best 9.900 in the third position, followed by another career-high from Ruskey's 9.925. The anchor on the floor for Temple, Brooke Donabedian, scored a season-best 9.925, just shy of her school record of 9.950. It also marked her 15th career score in the 9.9 range, the most by anyone in program history.
