Gymnastics Scores Season-High on Beam to Finalize Regular Season at UNH

DURHAM, N.H. – The Temple gymnastics team closed out the regular season at the University of New Hampshire, finishing in third place with a 194.850, highlighted by its beam team scoring a season-high 49.175. The host Wildcats earned the meet victory with a 195.875, while Brown finished in second place with a 194.925. Bridgeport earned a 194.175, placing fourth.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The beam squad scoring output of 49.175 is tied for the fourth-highest tally in school history.
  • Owls' senior Brooke Donabedian earned her fourth win of the season on the beam with a career-high 9.925.
  • UNH's Kylie Gorgenyi earned the all-around victory, by picking up wins on the vault, bars, and floor.
 
ROTATION 1 (BARS – 48.850)
  • After rotation one on bars, Temple sat in second place with Sarah Stallings (9.800) and Cyrena Whalen (9.850) earning back-to-back 9.8s.
  • For Stallings, the junior has now tallied nine scores of 9.8 or better, including a string of seven straight to end the regular season.
  • Whalen's 9.850 qualified her for a tie of third place and marks her second-highest score of the season and her fourth score of 9.8 or higher this season.
  • Sophomore Emily Johnson and freshman Hannah Weklar scored 9.7s in rotation one. Johnson's 9.775 is her 10th score of 9.7 or higher in 11 bars' routines, while Weklar earned her third such score.
 
ROTATION 2 (BEAM – 49.175)
  • After a season-best score of 49.175, the Owls moved into first place after rotation two.
  • Donabedian tied for first place with a career-best score (9.925) with UNH's Serena Mullin. The Maple Valley, Wash. native picks up her fourth beam win of the season and has now earned scores of 9.8 or higher in six of 12 meets on beam.
  • Fellow senior Renee Schugman also tied her career-high by ending the beam competition in fourth place with a 9.875.
  • Stallings finished just outside the top 5 in sixth place with a career-high 9.850.
 
ROTATION 3 (FLOOR – 47.975)
  • Temple struggled on floor on Sunday, slipping to third place after three rotations. Its 47.975 marks the first time this season it scored under a 48.
  • However, TU picked up 9.8s from seniors Schugman (9.800) and Donabedian (9.875), and freshman Payton Monk (9.825). For Donabedian it's her 10th score of 9.8 or better this season, while Schugman and Monk pick up their seventh and ninth likewise scores, respectively.
 
ROTATION 4 (VAULT – 48.850)
  • Out of the third position, freshman Amelia Budd earned herself a second-place finish by setting a new career-high score with a 9.850.
  • Teammate Summer Ruskey followed with a third-place finish with a 9.825, her fourth 9.8 score of the season on the apparatus.
  • Senior Mackenzie Aresta closed out her regular season with her fourth 9.8 of the year.
  • Also putting in a good performance was the Smithtown, N.Y. native Schugman with a 9.775, her ninth score of night 9.7 or better in 11 routines, and fifth straight overall.

  • The Owls' gymnastics team will travel to Towson on Saturday, March 23 for the 2024 EAGL Championships.
