Gymnastics Ready for 2024 EAGL Championships

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Owls' gymnastics team will be travel to Towson, Md. this Saturday for the 2024 EAGL Championships. The Owls are looking for their second-ever championship and first since 2021. Saturday's meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET and will be available on ESPN+.

YEARLY AWARDS
On Monday, senior Brooke Donabedian led the Owls team with a pair All-EAGL honors. The Maple Valley, Wash. native earned herself her first-ever first-team plaudit on beam, and her third overall. Donabedian's beam selection marks the school's first-ever first-team selection. The fourth-year gymnast also picked up her third first-team honor on floor, and fourth overall.
Also on beam, junior Madison Dorunda earned her second straight second-team plaudit, while senior Renee Schugman earns her first-ever beam selection, also on the second team.

Joining their teammate Donabedian on the floor with their first-ever selections are second teamers, freshman Payton Monk and junior Summer Ruskey.
On bars, Sarah Stallings and Cyrena Whalen earned their second career selections. For the the junior Stallings it's her first-ever first-team selection, while the senior Whalen added up her second second-team membership.
Just two days later, Donabedian added another award to her mantle by picking up her second EAGL Specialist of the Week honor this season, and third for her career.

LAST TIME OUT
The Temple Owls are coming off the New Hampshire Quad meet pair last weekend, while finishing in third place behind the host Wildcats (195.875) with a 194.850 and Brown (195.925), but ahead Bridgeport who scored a 194.175.
ROAD TO THE NATIONALS
The Owls ended the regular season last week with their best NQS ranking continuing to be on floor. Â Temple is currently ranked 49th in the NQS rankings with a 49.145. The other rankings include 52nd on bars (48.825), Â 53rd on vault (48.870) and 51st on beam (48.800).
VAULT
The Owls used nine gymnasts thus far this season on vault, with freshmen Hailey Best, Hannah Weklar, Amelia Budd, and junior Madison Dorunda seeing action on the apparatus for the first time in their careers. Fellow junior Summer Ruskey returned to the Owls' vault lineup for the first time since 2022.Â
The last time out at the UNH quad meet, freshman Amelia Budd earned herself a second-place finish by setting a new career-high score with a 9.850. Also putting in a good performance was the Smithtown, N.Y. native Schugman with a 9.775, her ninth score of night 9.7 or better in 11 routines, and fifth straight overall.
Notably, the senior Schugman has been the most consistent TU performer on vault, averaging 9.743. Â
BARS
The Owls scored a 48.880 on bars at UNH as Sarah Stallings (9.800) and Cyrena Whalen (9.850) earned back-to-back 9.8s. For Stallings, she has now tallied nine scores of 9.8 or better, including a string of seven straight to end the regular season. Whalen's 9.850 qualified her for a tie of third place and marks her second-highest score of the season and her fourth score of 9.8 or higher this season.
Stallings' First-Team All-EAGL selection comes on the heels of a regular season where she has averaged a 9.762 and has an NQS of 9.860, earned five event wins, and earned a career-high 9.900.
BEAM
The Owls earned a season-best 49.175 on beam last Sunday in Durham, N.H., a score that ranks seventh-best in school history. Â Donabedian tied for first place with a career-best score (9.925) with UNH's Serena Mullin. The Maple Valley, Wash. native picked up her fourth beam win of the season and has earned scores of 9.8 or higher in six of 12 meets on beam. Fellow senior Renee Schugman also tied her career-high by ending the beam competition in fourth place with a 9.875. Stallings finished just outside the top five in sixth place with a career-high 9.850.
Donabedian leads the Owls with the fifth-best NQS (9.840) and is tied for 14th in the northeast region. She leads Temple with four event wins and earned a career-high 9.925 in the regular season finale.Â
FLOOR
TU picked up 9.8s from seniors Schugman (9.800) and Donabedian (9.875), and freshman Payton Monk (9.825). For Donabedian it's her 10th score of 9.8 or better this season, while Schugman and Monk added their seventh and ninth likewise scores, respectively.
Donabedian along the freshman Monk are two of the best floor gymnasts in the EAGL . Both Cherry and White gymnasts rank in the top 10 Â of the leagues' NQS rankings with Donabedian ranking second with 9.895 and Monk is 10th with a 9.860.Â
SCOUTING TOWSON
13 Tigers picked up 21 All-EAGL selections for the 2024 season, the highest number out of all teams in the conference. Highlighting the Tigers were 16 first teamers included the four facets. The top-ranking individuals include Elise Tisler. Tisler had the highest NQS of anyone in the EAGL with a 9.915 and tied for second highest on floor with a 9.895. Isabella Minervini earned a 9.955 on bars, the highest by any gymnast in the EAGL. Grace Vaillancourt led Towson on beam with the third-best NQS in EAGL with a 9.870.
SCOUTING UNH
The Wildcats picked up 15 All-EAGL selections on Monday. Highlighting the Wildcats' season is Kylie Gorgenyi. Gorgenyi led the team with three of the four first-team selections. The New Hampshire all-arounder is tied for second in the EAGL on vault with a NQS of 9.875, tied for second on bars with a 9.895, and second in the all-around with a 39.270. Â Teammate Jenna Devincenzo also earned a first-team placement in the uneven bars earning an NQS of 9.830.
SCOUTING LIU
Just behind Temple with nine total All-EAGL selections is LIU. Â Syd Morris is the lone Shark to earn first team selections. Morris led the EAGL in both NQS scores on the beam and all-around. The senior leads the conference with a 9.930 NQS on beam and a 39.310. The Sharks' leader also picked up second-team honors on vault and bars.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
18 Revolutionaries gymnasts earned All-EAGL awards, including three individuals that earned multiple first-team awards. Whitman led the George Washington with four selections, including NQS a 9.865 on vault, a 9.840 on beam, a 9.930 on floor and a 39.225 in the all-around. Anneliese Silverman picked up first-team honors on beam (9.835) floor (9.865) and in the all-around (39.165). Zarah Zois was honored for vault (9.875) and beam (9.835).
GW Kendall Whitman was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week and Maya Peters took home Rookie of the Week accolades.
Whitman set a career-high in the all-around on Friday at Towson with a 39.425 and also tallied a career-best on floor with a 9.975, helping GW accomplish a program-record 197.200. The senior co-captain tallied a 9.900 on vault, 9.725 on bars and 9.825 on beam to round out the night.
Peters earns her second Rookie of the Week honor thanks, in part, to a 9.925 on beam in Friday night's tri-meet. She also tallied a 9.800 on bars to contribute to the Buff & Blue's program-record night. Peters then set a career-high on bars with a 9.850 on Sunday and paced GW with a 9.875 on beam, good for a third-place finish.
