Gymnastics To Close Out Regular Season at New Hampshire Quad

PHILADELPHIA - Coming off the fifth-best score of all time, the Temple Owls will travel to Durham, N.H. on Sunday, March 17 to tangle with the host Wildcats, Brown, and Bridgeport. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium and will be available on YouTube.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Owls competed in two meets for their final home contests of the season. On Thursday, the Cherry and White finished with its sixth 49 of the season on floor, on its way to a third-place finish in Thursday's matinee home quad. The Owls scored a 195.450 behind first-place Maryland that scored a 197.050 and second-place NC State with a 196.750, but ahead of cross-town rival Penn with a 194.275. Just three days later on Senior Day, the floor team made program history as it scored a school-record 49.575, helping the Owls' to their first 196-plus score of the season, and fifth-highest score in school history.  Temple tallied a 196.225, followed by William and Mary with a 194.925, Long Island University with a 194.700, and West Chester at a 193.800.
 
ROAD TO THE NATIONALS
The Owls best event this season has been on floor where they are ranked 45th in the RoadtoNationals rankings with an NQS of 49.145. The other rankings include 53rd on bars (48.765),  54th on vault (48.830) and beam (48.660).
 
VAULT
The Owls used nine gymnasts thus far this season on vault, with freshmen Hailey Best, Hannah Weklar, Amelia Budd, and junior Madison Dorunda seeing action on the apparatus for the first time in their careers. Fellow junior Summer Ruskey returned to the Owls' vault lineup for the first time since 2022.
 
The last time out on Senior Day, the Owls scored a 48.925, junior Summer Ruskey led Temple in the first rotation with a 9.825, tying with Syd Morris of LIU for second place. It was the Taneytown, Md. native's third 9.8 or better this season. Senior Renee Schugman also earned a top-five finish with a 9.800, her third 9.8 or better this season.
 
Notably, senior Renee Schugman has been the most consistent TU performer on vault, averaging 9.732.  She's earned a 9.7 or better in the last four meets, including eight total for the season.
 
BARS
The Owls were solid on bars scoring a 48.950 last Thursday, March 7. With Stallings putting together as she tied her personal best with a 9.900. It was the juniors fifth score of 9.900 or better and eighth overall. Sophomore Emily Johnson tied her career-high on the apparatus with a 9.825, a score she set previously at the Towson Dual meet earlier this season. Three days later, during Senior Day, Stallings earned a share with freshman Hannah Weklar and senior Cyrena Whalen for first place, helping the Owls to a tie for the fifth-best score in school history with a 49.125. While Weklar picked up her first event win, the Guilderland, N.Y native scored a career-best 9.850. Sophomore Angelina Hogan also set a new career-best on bars as she scored a 9.775, breaking her previous best of 9.725.
 
Thus far through in 11 meets, the junior Stallings has won a team-best five times on bars. Stallings started out the season with three-straight 9.8s or better and five overall.  In her career, the Raleigh, N.C. native has earned 23 scores of 9.8-plus and 10 bars event championships. The Raleigh, N.C. junior is ranked No. 4 in RoadtoNationals EAGL NQS rankings with a 9.860.
 
BEAM
Last week, the Owls scored 49.600 and 48.000 respectively in the two meets. On Thursday, Schugman, juniors Stallings and Madison Dorunda led Temple with scores above a 9.8 in rotation three.
 
The Smithtown, N.Y. native Schugman led the Owls with a season-high 9.850, while Stallings put in a career-best performance with a 9.825 and Dorunda earned her third straight 9.8 or better, also with a 9.825, fifth overall this season. Then on Sunday, Dorunda, Summer Ruskey, and senior Brooke Donabedian earned top-10 finishes on beam with all three scoring in the 9.7-range. Ruskey led the Owls in rotation three with a 9.775, her third 9.7 or higher in 2024. With a 9.750, Dorunda earned her seventh score of 9.7 or higher this season. Donabedian's 9.7 is ninth score of 11 meets to score at least a 9.7.
 
Dorunda is currently ranked 5th in the EAGL and 20th in the northeast region with a 9.820 NQS.
 
FLOOR
The last time out on floor was a record-shattering performance for Temple as Dorunda, Ruskey, Weklar, Monk, Schugman, and Donabedian scored a 49.575, breaking the program the team set in 2023 with a 49.250.
 
All six Temple participants on floor earned at least a 9.8, including career-highs from Dorunda, Weklar, Ruskey, and Monk. Dorunda started off the rotation with a career-best, 9.900, followed by Weklar's career-best 9.875. Schugman followed with a season-best 9.900 in the third position, followed by another career-high from Ruskey's 9.925. The anchor on the floor for Temple, Brooke Donabedian, scored a season-best 9.925, just shy of her school record of 9.950.  It also marked her 15th career score in the 9.9 range, the most by anyone in program history.
 
The Owls have used the nine gymnasts on the floor this season, including the freshman Monk and the senior Donabedian have been the only two floor team members to score at least a 9.700 each time out this season.
 
Donabedian has also been a consistent performer in the event with six scores in at least the 9.8 range. The Maple Valley, Wash. native has added four events wins and four times this season she's scored a 9.900 and now 15 times in her career.
 
Donabedian ranks within the top 10 of the RoadtoNationals EAGL NQS rankings, No. 4 with a 9.895.
 
SCOUTING UNH
Fellow EAGL member New Hampshire comes into this Sunday's meet in third place of the conference with a 195.450 NQS and a 17-12 record.
 
Last Sunday, during their last time out at the Missouri quad, UNH's sophomore Serena Mullin (Hamden, Conn.) registered team-leading scores on vault, balance beam and floor exercise to lead  team to a 195.250 and a third-place finish. No. 11 Denver won the meet with a 197.625, followed by the 13th-ranked Tigers (197.375). UNH topped Southeast Missouri State (193.150).
 
Kylie Gorgenyi matched Mullin on vault with a 9.800, paced the Wildcats' bars lineup with a 9.8  and secured a 9.850 on floor. Gorgenyi finished fifth in all-around with a 39.050.
 
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown enters Sunday's meet in fourth place of the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) with a 193.765.
 
The Bears gymnastics team fell to 194.250-193.425 last Sunday at home in Providence, but junior Julia Bedell earned wins on vault and floor with a 9.850 and 9.900 on the respective events. Her 9.850  on vault was the fourth-best in school history. Senior Lauren McKeown and Astra-Sollija Farrell earned first place on bars for the Bears with a 9.775.
 
SCOUTING BRIDGEPORT
Bridgeport comes into the meet in sixth place of the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) with 193.350 NQS.
 
During their last time out, the Purple Knights earned a victory over Brown during last Sunday's dual meet on Sunday afternoon. The Purple Knights finished with a team score of 194.250, which is their second-highest mark of the season. Bridgeport got a season-best performance by Abigail Kenney in the all-around with a 39.150.  Kenney had marks of 9.825 and 9.850 on the beam and floor. Former Temple Owl Hannah Barry matched Kenney on the beam with a 9.825, which was a meet high. Lola Sepulveda was the top performer on vault with a season-high score of 9.825. The sophomore Sepulveda also earned a 9.825 on floor on her way to her third-highest score of the year (39.075).

Temple will put the final touches on the EAGL season next Saturday, March 23 at EAGL Championships, hosted by Towson University.
